Arnold & Porter has an opening for a Legal Technology Advisor. The Legal Technology Advisor may work a hybrid work schedule in our New York or Washington, DC office or may work 100% virtual/remote in a firm-approved U.S. state as part of the “Gideon” office. The Legal Technology Advisor will be part of the eData and Legal Technology Department and will assist in the analysis of legal focused solutions that incorporate innovative technology to support the firm’s practices and clients. The Advisor will work to improve and support the delivery of legal services by conceptualizing, designing, prototyping, and building out relevant solutions. This position will employ the skills of a product designer, project manager, consultant, and be an innovation champion.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Proactively identifying opportunities to inject process improvement, project management, technology (existing and new), and other solutions to better serve our clients and practice groups to create a competitive advantage for the firm.
  • Initiating and coordinating initiatives with the ability to carry projects through the entire lifecycle, from conception, requirements gathering, solution research, software evaluation and selection, and the preparation of written recommendations.
  • Proactively communicating and collaborating with external and internal customers to analyze information needs and functional requirements including use cases, interface designs, etc.
  • Serving as the conduit between the customer community (internal and external customers) and, other members of eData and the Legal Technology Group, Information Technology, and other support resources.
  • Drawing upon experience to determine if current enterprise solutions are in place and if they can be adapted to meet changing needs.
  • Remaining current on relevant technologies and industry standards through networking and training/education.
  • Collaborating with developers and subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs.
  • Creating and maintaining relationships with practice group leads and key stakeholders to foster a culture of trust and collaboration into which innovation can be seeded.

Qualifications

  • The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of the degree when the experience has been directly related to the functions of the job, preferably in a law firm, corporate legal department, or other legal services provider environment.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of increasingly responsible, directly related experience during which knowledge, skills, and abilities applicable to the position were demonstrated.
  • Project management experience is essential. In particular, experience must include solution design, consulting and/or client-facing roles.
  • Experience with knowledge management and/or legal innovation practices preferred.
  • Knowledge of the workflows and the core needs of lawyers.
  • Demonstrated track record of cultivating business driven ideas and seeing them through to completion. Strong understanding of the development of legal technology, how it has evolved and how law firms can benefit from it through typical and non-typical implementations; able to converse comfortably with lawyers on same.
  • Demonstrated ability to become and remain familiar with strategic goals and initiatives, re-engineer and improve business and technical processes in alignment with strategy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with all organizational levels, both orally and in writing. Possess effective presentation skills including the ability to speak confidently in front of small to large groups of lawyers and others, and deliver a polished and compelling presentation. Able to interpret complex technical ideas and convey them in terms that lawyers and other professionals can understand. Able to facilitate group brainstorming and work product creation sessions. Able to handle stressful situations calmly and interact successfully with various personalities at all levels in the firm.
  • Able to work in a deadline-driven environment and respond to multiple priorities. Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Proven capacity for creative problem solving.
  • Proven track record of figuring out a solution when no clear solution is visible, including by piecing together disparate systems.
  • Experience with relational database management systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Familiarity with HighQ, Litera Contract Companion, Litera Create, Jigsaw, Exhibit Manager, OnCue, Kira, and other similar software programs.
  • Ability to turn ideas into product solutions.
  • Understanding of and ability to apply a design thinking approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to work effectively, both independently and with others, in a cooperative, enthusiastic, and friendly manner to accomplish position functions and participate in team efforts.
  • Strong business analysis skills, the demonstrated ability to exceed client expectations, and strategic thinking acumen. Willing to ask questions where appropriate and guide others when required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, priority setting, and problem solving, especially when responding to unanticipated business requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to provide quality client service to both internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to quickly learn and utilize new software programs and tools.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and demonstrate a high degree of trustworthiness in handling confidential and sensitive information.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $100,000 to $135,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.

The firm may provide a discretionary bonus annually.

Salary : $100,000 - $135,000
