What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sleep Center Assistant position at Arnot Health?
MAIN FUNCTION:
Provides support services for the Sleep Disorders Center. In collaboration with the Medical Director and Director/Manager of Respiratory Services, the Sleep Center Assistant will perform clerical duties including but not limited to, accepting referrals, scheduling appointments, file management and assisting in the set-up of home sleep testing equipment. Reports to the Supervisor of Respiratory Services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
** 1. Is responsible for preparation, filing and storage of sleep studies.
- Communicates with providers/offices regarding referrals for sleep testing.
** 3. Gathers all required information to submit to prior-authorization for approval for testing
** 4. Is responsible for scheduling In-Lab and Home sleep studies
** 5. Completes pre-procedure phone calls to Sleep Center out-patients
** 6. Cleans and processes non-disposable sleep testing equipment.
- Demonstrates competency for the set-up for home sleep testing equipment, including teaching procedure to patients.
- Demonstrates awareness of Patients’ Rights; treats patients/families with respect, dignity, and kindness.
- Practices effective problem identification and problem solution skills.
- Recognizes changes in patient status and advises appropriate personnel immediately.
- Reviews employee handbook, revised policies and procedures, and bulletin board in order to maintain understanding of Arnot Health regulations and new relevant information.
- Demonstrates awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution,
including the Medical Device Reporting Law.
- Removes broken/defective equipment from service and notifies Director/Manager of issue.
- Keeps Supervisor informed of all supply and equipment issues including the need to reorder.
- Follows policies and procedures related to infection control and performs procedures using appropriate personal protective equipment and technique.
- Participates in QI activities. Demonstrates QI principles in daily work.
- Identifies opportunities for improvement in communication, practice setting and working relationships, and implements methods for improvement.
- Develops effective working relationships with all members of the health care team.
- Is responsible for attending/completing all annual mandatory educational programs as required by position.
- Employee understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient by interacting with him/her in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to the customer’s needs, both psychologically and physically, and by taking the initiative to maintain communication with the customer in order to provide a secure and pleasant experience with the Arnot Health.

EDUCATION:
No formal education required.
EXPERIENCE:
1-3 years clerical or hospital experience preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Some lifting, reaching, and stooping. Requires moderate physical effort. Frequently lifting 15 pounds, occasionally lifting 25 pounds.
