Summary


The Process Planner Team Lead is responsible for review and confirmation of the Bill of Materials (BOM’s) received
from Design and Development to ensure compliance with the approach to manufacturing and support for
management of change notices throughout the life cycle of the production order. There are four key functional
responsibilities associated with this position: Resource, BOM and Routing Definition, Item Master Confirmation, Plan
Release to Production and BOM Change Management.


Resource, BOM and Routing Definition responsibilities will include development of procedures and policies that
support the creation and maintenance of plan templates. These procedures include file importation and management
of the import files from Design, reconciliation to estimates and standards to confirm completeness.


Inventory and Phantom Master File maintenance responsibilities will include management of new part creation,
coordination with other functional teams to ensure completeness of key characteristics/standards and updates based
on change control triggers.


Participation in Pre-Production meetings to understand key design, manufacturing and procurement requirements.
Manage the release of plans to support long lead time purchases, production tracking requirements and ensure
updates as Design releases BOMs to support the order.


Review, formalize and communicate BOM changes to Production, Warehouse/Inventory Control and Procurement to
ensure the impact on existing commitments are properly managed.


KPI Analysis responsibilities will include preparation of any reports, analysis and statistics to support the creation,
maintenance and release of BOM’s to support Procurement, Production, Warehouse and Costing teams.


Reporting Relationships & Key Interfaces:


The Process Planner Team Lead will be responsible for supervising and managing planners within the group and will
report directly to the Materials and Production Planning Manager. The Team Lead will interface directly with the
following departments: Design Engineering, Cost Center/Department Managers, Procurement, Plant Controller,
Warehouse/Inventory Control and Costing/Estimating. Key Responsibilities


MASTER FILE MAINTENANCE


 Define and maintain key production master files to support materials planning and tracking through the
manufacturing process. The files include:  Item Master  Phantom
 Process Plans  Job Plans

 

Job Description

 

 Ensure BOM’s are associated with the correct sequence/cost center to support materials allocations and
planning.  Manage BOM import files to support plan development and address issues and errors as required.  Coordinate with production to ensure the results of the sampling process are reflected in the finalized BOM’s.


PLAN RELEASE


 Coordinate the release of Plans to support manufacturing requirements.  Communicate updates to plans as additional BOM’s are released and ensure appropriate files are updated.  Manage and update plans to support long lead time purchase requirements.


CHANGE CONTROL

 

 ï‚· Review and assess impact of BOM changes issued by Design on process plan, including state of production
process, estimating/costing, inventory and procurement relative to the item(s) change.  Update the relevant files with the BOM Change (Process Plan, Order Plan, Item Master, Phantom Master).  Communicate to team impacted to ensure correct BOM is used in the manufacturing process.


PRE-PRODUCTION PLANNING


 Participate in cross functional Pre-Production Planning Meetings to understand the scope, timelines and
manufacturing strategies for various projects and programs.  Coordinate with the Materials/Production Planning Manager to define the manufacturing strategies to support BOM design/structure.  Review and coordinate demand forecasts used to plan materials and capacity requirements.


TEAM SUPERVISION

 

 Provide support and guidance to planners on the team for creation of key master files and plans.  Review and audit files for accuracy and compliance.  Manage activities and tasks based on project plan time lines.


KPI ANALYSIS


 Prepare or generate reports as directed to support KPI values.  Participate in improvement initiatives directed to improvement or benchmarking KPI values.  Assist with the creation and implementation of specific procedures and practices aimed at improving or benchmarking KPI values.


Qualifications


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


The position requires a college diploma or university degree, related certifications or equivalent work experience.
Equivalent experience would require three to five years in a comparable role.


COMPLEXITY


Problems are diverse in scope and difficulty and require the use of judgment to analyze situations or data to review
identifiable factors within framework of generally defined procedures and practices. The Process Planner Group
Leader selects methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. They must be capable of managing multiple tasks and
coordinate efforts with many functional areas. The Process Planner receives no instructions on routine assignments
and general instructions on new assignments.


Skills

 

 Strong communication/presentation skills (written and verbal).  Intermediate knowledge of business processes and practices used by mixed mode manufacturers (i.e. discrete and job shop using both make to order and make to forecast production order policy).  Organization and time management skills. Able to work within project timelines with limited supervision.

 Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to complete assigned project activities.  Able to use Microsoft office suite of products to support analysis and reporting requirements (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).  Working knowledge and understanding of software supporting operational transactions and reporting.  Detailed understanding of policies and procedures defined for the company relating to operational transactions
and reporting.
