Job Title: Mental Health Therapy Aide (Psychiatric & Mental Health Unit)
Location: Syracuse, NY
Department: Children/Adolescent Psych Unit
Shift: Evening Shift (3 shifts per week, 12-hour shifts)
Job Summary:
We're seeking experienced Mental Health Therapy Aides to join our Children/Adolescent Psychiatric Unit. The ideal candidate will have psychiatric experience and a strong ability to support patients in a behavioral health setting. This role involves both direct and indirect patient care, ensuring the safety and well-being of children and adolescents in an acute care psychiatric environment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the daily care, supervision, and support of psychiatric patients.
- Monitor and ensure patient safety, including crisis prevention and intervention.
- Support therapeutic activities and encourage patient engagement.
- Collaborate with nurses, psychiatrists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Assist with de-escalation techniques and behavioral interventions.
- Document patient behavior and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
- Work every other weekend and some holidays as required.
Qualifications:
- Current CPR certification (Required).
- Minimum of 1 year of psychiatric experience (Required).
- Experience in Behavioral health settings (Preferred).
- Prior experience in an inpatient psychiatric facility (Preferred).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care in a high-acuity environment.
