Indirect Procurement - Category Manager for MRO/CAPEX

Description:

Our Global Petrochemicals manufacturing client is looking for a Procurement Manager to join our Business team. This position is located in Charlotte, NC. We are looking for a highly motivated professional with demonstrated capabilities and relevant experience. A successful individual in this role must have strong negotiating, communication, presentation, reporting & demonstrated related work experience with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Develop and maintain positive supplier relationships. Coordinate information flow to all key internal business partners and senior management regarding supplier performance. Effective project management is a must in this role.

 

Responsibilities/Job Requirements:


·        The Category Manager MRO reports directly to the Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) and is responsible for the execution of the tactical procurement process under consideration of category strategies for MRO demands (e.g. gaskets, pumps, etc.).

·        Thereby, the Category Manager MRO is responsible for evaluating and selecting suitable suppliers, managing tenders and negotiations as well as ensuring compliant awarding. To receive relevant procurement information (e.g. contracts) and to define overall category strategy cross-region/ BU, the Category Manager works operationally with local procurement as well as with the Category Managers across regions.

·        Sets up yearly initiative implementation plans including project timelines and savings estimations

·        Drives key savings initiatives and savings implementation and supports local procurement to execute local/site specific procurement initiatives

·        Conducts spend cube analyses and creates category strategies. Effectively use SAP to create and maintain supplier agreements, pricing, or commodity analytics in a timely manner.

·        Purchase materials in the assigned commodity portfolio, consistent with considerations of quality, reliability of source and urgency of need.

·        Effectively interact with and communicate with manufacturing, engineering, project management across sites and suppliers regarding commodity management activities.

·        Leads market interventions such as market screenings (RFI), tenders (RFQ) and concept competitions (RFP)

·        Conducts supplier and market analysis (e.g. to assist in make-or-buy decisions)

·        Support category sourcing strategies including development and execution of clearly defined sourcing events; document bid process through supplier communication; drive the selection of suppliers in collaboration with cross-functional teams; conduct supplier negotiations; and ongoing supplier management

·        Develop negotiation strategies, gain alignment from stakeholders, lead cross-sites, cross-functional, category-based negotiation teams, and implement appropriate supplier risk analysis.

·        Use current spend information/data and business knowledge to identify sourcing projects for individual subcategories and develop an overall cost reduction plan for the region.

·        Establish negotiation strategies and lead or assist in negotiations

·        Prepares awarding scenarios/recommendations, and works out price agreements or frame contracts

·        Maintains MRO initiatives in PMO tracking tool and reports initiative progress and procurement KPIs to CPO on a bi-weekly basis

·        Evaluates new digital procurement tools (e.g. e-auction) and establishes implementation plans with beneficial ROI

·        Relationship management and development of key suppliers

·        Responsible for Source-to-Contract process implementation on BU level

·        Executes supplier audits on a local plant level with auditors

·        Develop and manage professional relationships with key suppliers and stakeholders yielding effective partnerships.

Skills: 

·        Advanced project management skills and capability to successfully work in cross-functional teams

·        Experience in conducting strategic sourcing activities, leading projects, and challenging status quo with business stakeholders and suppliers

·        Strong analytical skills

·        Supply market knowledge (e.g. market structure insights, screening capabilities)

·        Strong negotiation capabilities

·        Deep understanding of procurement key cost drivers and levers

·        Supplier development capabilities

·        Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

·        Good presentation skills


Education and Experience:

·        Minimum a bachelor’s degree with focus on supply chain, procurement and/or international business

·        A minimum of 10 years’ experience in procurement (preferably for MRO)

·        Background knowledge of technical engineering beneficial 

·        Experience in strategic procurement tasks (RFx, tendering, negotiation, strategy development)

·        Basic level of understanding in respect of changing markets (seller vs. buyer markets)

·        Great knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel) and preferably also experienced in working with ERP

·        Handled spend of ~$300M and established strategies for ~500 suppliers across several Americas locations
