ArtCenter College of Design is searching for an experienced Sewing Lab Assistant - part-time to join our team.
The salary for this position is $30 per hour

Under the direction of the assigned faculty member, the Sewing Lab Assistant guides and provides operational support to the Product Design sewing lab students. The incumbent will assist students with machine and tool checkout, keeping inventory of supplies, equipment organization and performing machine maintenance. This position will schedule, monitor students, and provide help with their projects during lab hours.
This is a part-time on-site position working between 10 - 15 hours per week.
Essential Functions
Sewing Lab Operations - 60%
- Effectively operate and manage all machines in the lab
- Provide machine maintenance and minor repairs - calibrate, oil and clean every term.
- Manage machine and tool checkout through Web Check Out
- Manage Sewing Lab supplies, equipment organization and maintenance.
- Assist with monitoring students and project help during lab hours; help field questions from students on materials and procedures while guiding them safely and effectively on the use of all lab equipment.
- Manage and coordinate contracts for external vendors, working with the Division Operations director.
- Liaison with facilities for any facility-related issues regarding the lab spaces and furnishings.
- Schedule lab hours and coordinate class hours with the department scheduler

Physical : Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in the classroom or lab or move around campus; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and / or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 10 pounds); to operate modern office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard or sewing machine; and to verbally communicate to exchange information. Regular and consistent attendance are required for most positions; must be able to travel between campuses and to off-site locations.
Vision : Must be able to have the visual capacity to perform activities such as preparing and reading reports, viewing a computer terminal and other normal office work with or without correction.
Hearing : Must be able to communicate effectively in the course of normal office communication or exchange ideas with or without correction and to hear sewing machine motors for monitoring of correct use.
