Art Club is a creative hub for young artists, offering art classes for children and teens ranging from ages 3 to 18. We focus on nurturing creativity, exploration, and the development of essential art skills across various mediums. Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Part-Time Art Teacher to join our team for the upcoming school year. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching a variety of art forms, such as drawing, painting, ceramics, collage, and more. The position requires teaching art classes to a wide age range (3-18 years old) in a structured yet flexible environment that promotes creative expression.
The teacher will be responsible for leading classes Monday through Friday, 3:15 PM to 7:30 PM, from September to May, with prep time before and after the teaching day. Additionally, the teacher will be required to teach a Clay Summer Camp during the summer months (June to August, Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM).
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach Art Classes:
Lead and facilitate engaging, developmentally appropriate art lessons to students aged 3-18, across a variety of art mediums such as drawing, painting, ceramics, and collage.
- Provide Feedback:
Provide constructive feedback and guidance to students based on pre-prepared lesson plans created by the Art Club team.
- Classroom Management:
Maintain a positive, safe, and organized classroom environment. Ensure students follow the art studio's guidelines, respect supplies and materials, and engage in a respectful manner with one another.
- Clay Summer Camp:
Lead the Clay Summer Camp program from June to August, Monday through Friday, 10 AM – 4 PM. The camp will focus on hands-on clay-based projects and creative exploration.
- Collaboration:
Work closely with other staff members to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment for all students.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
Previous experience teaching art to children and teens is required. A strong portfolio or teaching demonstration may be requested.
- Skills:
Proficiency in various art mediums (drawing, painting, ceramics, collage, etc.) and the ability to teach developmentally appropriate techniques for a wide age range.
- Classroom Management:
Strong classroom management skills with the ability to engage students of different ages and skill levels.
- Feedback and Communication:
Ability to provide clear, constructive feedback to students based on pre-prepared lessons and communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff members.
- Creative Mindset:
Passionate about fostering creativity and self-expression in students while developing their technical art skills.
Additional Information:
- Schedule (School Year): Monday to Friday, 3:15 PM – 7:30 PM, from September to May.
- Summer Camp (Required): Clay Summer Camp from Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM during summer months (June to August).
- Compensation: Competitive hourly wage based on experience.
- Location: Art Club, Waldorf, Maryland.
