ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Since 1972, the Gene Siskel Film Center of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago has presented cutting edge cinema as Chicago’s premier art house theater. The Film Center’s programming includes annual film festivals that celebrate diverse voices and international cultures, premieres of trailblazing work by today’s independent filmmakers, restorations and revivals of essential films from cinema history, and insightful, provocative discussions with filmmakers and media artists.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Lead Cashiers manage all aspects of selling concessions and tickets in the absence of the Operations manager, and oversee the running of the front of house operations of the Gene Siskel Film Center. Lead Cashiers manage cashiers and student workers in the absence of the Operations Manager, and provide excellent customer service to theater guests and members.
RESPONSIBILITIES
In the absence of the Operations Manager, Lead Cashiers ensure that all operations and policies are executed with the highest level of customer service. Lead Cashiers also:
- Manage cashiers and student worker to ensure the accurate operating of the POS system for transactions selling tickets. and concessions (cash/credit).
- Provide excellent customer service, ability to problem solve and maintain customer satisfaction.
- Stay updated on film program being presented, to better interact with customers.
- Open and close concession stand according to training.
- Maintain a clean and welcoming public space.
- Stock and restock concessions and supplies as needed and in preparation for the next day.
- Keep track of discounts, comps and damaged goods as well as alert the Operations Manager regarding needed inventory.
- Other tasks as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Lead Cashier position requires approximately 50% standing to sell concessions and 50% sitting while selling movie tickets.
- Some lifting of concession supplies up to 25 pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2–3 years of experience in box office operations, theater concessions, hospitality, or retail sales.
- Proficiency with POS systems, ideally in ticketing, entertainment, nonprofit arts, or hospitality industries.
- Experience in inventory management and maintenance.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work effectively with the general public.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Passion for film is a plus.
- Willingness to obtain Illinois BASSET Certification.
