Art Start Teaching Artist
Since 1991, Art Start’s Creative Collectives have facilitated creative arts workshops with thousands of NYC youth from historically marginalized communities. Through long-term partnerships with numerous city and nonprofit social service agencies, Art Start’s Creative Collectives take place inside of schools, transitional housing residences (shelters) for families experiencing homelessness, and at residential detention facilities and alternative sentencing programs for justice-involved youth. Art Start seeks enthusiastic, passionate and creative Teaching Artists to assist in leading workshops in our Creative Collectives program. Disciplines can include visual arts, music, dance, spoken word and acting.
SCHEDULE:
- starts ASAP
- Thursdays, 2:30-6:30pm
- Location: Bronx
- Pay rate: $28-30/hour
- Status: W2
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- With the support of the Program’s manager, effectively run one to two weekly arts workshops using Art Start’s curriculum or an approved curriculum in alignment with Art Start’s mission and values.
- Work closely with interns and volunteers, where appropriate, to reach workshop objectives with the youth.
- Complete finance invoices for submission based on curriculum needs and details monthly
- Maintain open communication with the Program's manager through email communication and by attending monthly programming meetings.
- Complete post-workshop attendance and feedback journals after each workshop to submit to the Program's manager.
QUALIFICATIONS STRONGLY DESIRED
- Fluency in speaking and writing in English
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus
- Proven experience working with youth from historically marginalized communities.
- Experience leading arts workshops with youth.
- Degree or experiential background in the arts, education, social work, psychology, or youth development.
- High level of professionalism and sound judgment
- Extremely conscious of punctuality and advanced preparation
- High levels of accountability
- Comfortable working independently
- High standards with regard to attention to detail & quality
- Extremely trustworthy and reliable
- Outgoing & proactive with youth
