We are currently hiring for a Weekend Day shift Lead. Hours are 6am-6pm Friday through Sunday and a Weekend Night Shift Lead. Hours are 6pm-6am Friday through Sunday.
Primary Purpose:
The Lead Operator is committed to working in a safe manner with their team, be able to read and follow procedures, complete required paperwork, operate and assist with troubleshooting machines, facilitate the production plant training program, and demonstrate the ability to perform back-up supervisory tasks in accordance with Schuman Cheese Mission and Values; working with Commitment, Honesty and Integrity, Pride, be Adaptable and Innovative.
Responsibilities:
Machine (Multi-vac) Operator Responsibilities:
- Equipment assembly, operation, and disassembly.
- Consistently keep Multivac or Orics machines running at full speed and not slow them down due to protruding product.
- Startup Multivac or Orics and put either in or out of clean up mode when required.
- Fine tuning and adjusting equipment in the production rooms, including (but not limited to) all equipment running in tandem with the line assigned.
- Properly troubleshoot different types of error messages on the Multivac or Orics and understand when to call Maintenance for support.
- Ability to pack products in boxes, stack boxes, inspect packages and boxes for good seals and code dates.
- Complete top and bottom film changes.
- Empty trim winders while running.
- Complete label verifications.
- Safely unjam and restart depositors.
- Safely assemble and disassemble scales, depositors and all tray forming and sealing equipment.
- Dry clean depositors and collection buckets.
- Start up the scales and depositors after dry cleaning or sanitation.
- Ensure quality and safety procedures are always followed.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work area.
- Ensure all documentation is accurate and complete.
- Various sanitation and clean up duties.
- All employees are responsible for the quality and food safety of our products. Food safety and quality problems shall be brought to the immediate attention of Schuman personnel with authority to initiate action.
Lead Operator/Back-up Supervisor Responsibilities:
- Knowledge and ability to fill in as Production Supervisor when necessary, including but not limited to:
- Lead the people and processes for your assigned functional area(s).
- Complete department paperwork and data entry.
- Accurately record down time.
- Foster a safe working environment, ensuring that safety is a top priority for you and your team, and that safety rules and procedures are followed.
- Ensure all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOP's) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) are being followed and adhered to.
- Facilitate training, including but not limited to:
- Onboarding and hands-on training with new hires.
- Yamato and/or Bilwinko training.
- Knowledge and capability to train others in operating tray forming and sealing equipment and other areas of production.
- Advanced operator and maintenance assistance duties, including but not limited to:
- Complete top or bottom film changes and adjust film placement as necessary.
- Zero and original point scales.
- Clean print heads when necessary.
- Assist maintenance with sealing station cleaning by turning off and on the chiller when necessary.
- Complete settings changes.
- Adjust upper film registration settings.
- Properly fix buckets on either the Bilwinko or Yamato scales.
- Blow out cross-cut stations during sanitation.
- Clean out seal station during sanitation.
- Change the gas switch set-point to adjust for concave or puffy packs.
- Make changes to the powder dispenser eye percentage settings.
- Adjust speed on Multivac or Orics machines within restricted adjustment parameters.
- Recalibrate the checkweigher settings.
- Change date code settings on printers.

Education, Experience, Qualities and Skills Required:
- High school diploma, or equivalent.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to contribute to a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills, paying special attention to details.
- Good conflict management and problem-solving skills.
- Understand factory quality procedures and ensure compliance on your shift.
- Ability to lead by example (demonstrate strong work ethic, positive attitude, etc.).
- Ability to multi-task, work quickly and accurately.
- Ability to become lock-out/tag-out certified.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and ensure correct equipment setup.
- Ability to understand and apply standard operating procedures.
- Good mathematical and recordkeeping skills required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience in the food industry preferred.
- Ability to speak, read and write in English.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50, on occasion up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work repetitiously.
- Ability to stand for long periods at a time.
- Able to work inside a freezer or cooler and in cheese processing environment temperatures (32 – 52 degrees F).
- Able to work with tree nuts, milk and wheat.
