Our internship program is focused on providing a dynamic work experience where each intern plays a versatile role within the organization. The intern joining us will gain the knowledge of the dairy industry and creating artisanal cheese. Our goal is to provide you with the tools and guidance to design and plan your own steps to be successful.
Responsibilities:
- Gain industry and organizational knowledge through daily interactions and job assignments.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with members of cross-functional teams.
- Set up meetings to obtain necessary knowledge and information from subject matter experts in the organization.
- Develop business & technical skills needed for a successful career.
- Learn financial matrix and perform market research to develop a solution-based business plan topic.
Business Plan Project:
During your summer at Schuman Cheese, you will build a business plan with your innovative idea to present to the CEO and our Senior Leadership Team at the end of your internship. The business plan must be related to the company (Schuman Cheese), but can be related to any topic, product, or process. The business plan will embrace our core values and must include a mission statement, details of your new idea (product/process/innovation), financial matrix, and end goals. You will be provided with a list of people and resources that you can work with to come up with your own business plan. The business plan will be submitted by the 9th week of your internship and you will present the plan during your final week. If your business plan is selected for implementation, you will be given an opportunity to be part of this project and will be awarded $5,000.00 scholarship towards your following semester. You will also receive an offer to join Schuman Cheese after you complete your degree.
Qualifications
Required Education, Qualities and Skills Required:
- High school diploma required.
- In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution and be able to provide documentation to confirm your degree progress.
- Current class standing of sophomore or above.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Passion to be successful with interest in food.
- Strong desire to gain further understanding of the food manufacturing business.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills (both written and verbal).
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong time-management skills.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret data.
- Strong presentation skills - written documentation and oral presentation.
- Adaptability to changing demands, priorities, circumstances, and directions.
- Strength working independently and as part of a group.
- Eager to learn and work well cross-functionally.
- Ability to be resourceful and proactive when issues arise.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Supervisory Responsibility:
No direct supervision required.
Work Environment:
For office-related internship: typical office working environment which includes a workstation equipped with a computer and other office supplies necessary for daily tasks. Typically climate-controlled to provide a comfortable working temperature year-round. Lighting is usually a mix of natural and artificial sources to ensure sufficient lamination.
For manufacturing related internships (including production, engineering, quality, maintenance): Work environment may fluctuates between food production areas and a quality lab setting. Standing is required for up to 70% of work shift. Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, squat and twist. Must be able to occasionally lift 25-50lbs. Temperatures range from 30°-100°F. Personal Protective Equipment must be worn in required areas.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a temporary, short-term, seasonal position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday. Expectations of up to 40 hours per week, to be worked during normal business hours.
Physical Requirements:
The physical requirements for an office or plant environment typically include:
1. Sitting: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or workstation.
2. Typing: Frequent use of hands to type on a keyboard and operate a computer mouse.
3. Visual Requirements: Extended periods of viewing a computer screen and reading printed or digital documents.
4. Mobility: 50% walking or standing, including moving between different areas of the office and food production areas. Must be able to walk, bend stoop, squat and twist.
5. Manual Dexterity: The ability to handle office equipment and production-related equipment.
6. Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills for interacting with colleagues, clients, and vendors.
7. Lifting: Occasionally lifting and carrying light objects, typically up to 25-50 pounds, such cheese products and cases.
8. Reaching and Bending: Reaching above shoulder height and bending to access equipment and product samples.
9. Hearing: Adequate hearing ability to be aware of surrounding in production areas and to participate in meetings and video conferences.

Compensation:
The budgeted salary for this position is $21.00 per hour for the 2-3 month duration of the summer internship program.
Salary range is based on consideration of required qualifications, experience, education, skill, training, certifications or seniority, etc. Schuman Cheese reserves the right to offer the selected candidate or applicant an hourly rate or salary at an appropriate level to be set and determined by Schuman Cheese that is commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications, experience, education, skill, training, certifications or seniority.
Salary : $21
