What are the responsibilities and job description for the House Crew Assistant-Carpentry position at ARTIS-NAPLES, INC?
Summary
Responsible for equipment, room set-up and operations for various events including rehearsals and performances by the Naples Philharmonic and presentations, lectures, seminars, luncheons, and other events in the jurisdiction described in the Collective Bargaining Agreement with IATSE Local 647.
Supervises
Local Union Extra Crew when appropriate.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
• Ensuring the safety of all crew, performers, staff and audience members in relation to production carpentry and fly system as it relates to assigned duties.
• Operate stage equipment which could require lifting, pushing or pulling heavy objects.
• Climbing ladders, using personnel lifts, and walking on structural steel above the stage. Working with tools in any location.
• Building stage risers, setting chairs and music stands, assembling percussion equipment, observing and assisting at services of the Naples Philharmonic orchestra both onsite at Artis—Naples and at offsite venues as assigned.
• Loading and unloading vehicles and their contents when required.
• Assist visiting groups, artists, volunteers and other Artis—Naples staff with their meeting events and related needs.
• Complete required equipment maintenance, inventories, and troubleshooting.
• Report hazardous or unsafe conditions to supervisor.
• Review all paperwork, plots and tech requirements received from visiting and resident Production Directors, Lighting Designers, etc.
• Operating the fly rail and ensuring the integrity of the fly system throughout the production.
• Required to be present and supervise extra/assistant carpenters and fly crew at all load in, focus, rehearsal, performance and load out calls.
• Responsible (with approval from resident Production Directors) for the purchasing and/or rental of any additional equipment that may be necessary for production.
• Assist other crew departments as needed and/or directed by Production Directors/Managers.
• Set up stages and other spaces with equipment per event specifications.
• Operate stage equipment which could require lifting, pulling or pushing heavy objects.

Qualifications
Minimum one year of professional stagecraft experience in one or more of the following areas: carpentry, rigging and/or fly rail operations. Specific experience desired for each department includes:
Carpentry – Strong working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a counterweight fly system, rigging practices and general carpentry skills.
Audio & Video – Basic working knowledge of the installation, connection, maintenance, and operation of audio & video control surfaces/boards, amplifiers, microphones, recording devices, projectors, screens and related equipment.
Electrics – Basic working knowledge of stage electrics with experience in the installation, connection, maintenance and operation of lighting control boards, dimmers, instruments and related equipment.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer Skills
Must have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Other Skills & Abilities
• Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with limited resources under tight timeframes.
• Must be able to demonstrate patience, sensitivity and diplomacy when interacting with musicians of the Naples Philharmonic, visiting artists, and production staff.
• Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions provided in writing, diagrams and verbally.
• Must be able to successfully interact with others both inside and outside the organization.
