Assistant Buyer
Compensation: Hourly
Hours: Full-time, Monday-Friday, on-site
At Artisan Labs, the Assistant Buyer is a key role. As such, this position reports directly to the Supply Chain Manager. They are responsible for maintaining positive supplier relationships, placing and tracking purchase orders, managing inventory, and reporting demand analysis trends. To be successful in this position, you should be confident in your quantitative abilities, highly organized, and an excellent communicator. An outstanding assistant buyer has an analytical mind and excellent customer service skills.
Job Description:
- Size and source tertiary packaging, including: master shippers, bubble wrap, dividers, and chipboard pads.
- Ensure all tertiary packaging arrives just in time for manufacturing.
- Create, place, and track purchase orders.
- Ensure purchase orders are placed at the right time, to specification and at a competitive price.
- Negotiate with suppliers and build/maintain strong positive relationships.
- Act as a backup buyer for ingredients/chemicals, as needed.
- Maintain relationships with packaging suppliers, including primary and secondary packaging, such as bottles, jars, lids, caps, unit cartons, labels, etc.
- Research new suppliers and make recommendations to the Supply Chain Manager.
- Perform cycle counts and report inventory adjustments.
- Work with warehouse staff to compare deliveries with purchase orders to identify discrepancies.
- Work as an active team member to complete team goals.
Education, Skills and Experience Needed:
- Associate’s degree in business, supply chain, finance, economics or related.
- Prefer 1-2 years in purchasing, manufacturing or related fields.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite applications.
- Strong knowledge of pricing and negotiation techniques.
- Pays attention to detail and monitors the quality of the inventory.
- Familiarity with inventory software, and able to effectively enter data into the company systems.
- Highly organized and able to store items efficiently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to work independently.
- Able to work in a fast paced environment.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Quickbooks or comparable software a plus
- Familiar with MRP software and purchasing processes.
