Job Overview
Arts Center East is seeking applicants for the part-time position of Executive Director. Candidates should be well versed in nonprofit business operations; possess effective communication skills; and capable of building collaborative partnerships within the Eastern Connecticut community.
Arts Center East opened in 2012 and is home to a rich artistic community. Our mission is to advance the arts for everyone through education, exhibits, events, and performances. Located in the heart of Vernon, Connecticut a visit to our historic site unveils unique handmade creations of pottery, jewelry, wood crafts, and other gifts made by local and regional artisans; musical and theatrical performances that delight audiences of all ages, and classrooms that hum with the joy of artistic creation and growth.
Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership
- Provides leadership and guidance to staff and volunteers to ensure that ACE is a visible, valuable, and viable asset to the community in accordance with its mission statement;
- Assists the Board of Directors in developing and executing a long-range strategy to achieve Arts Center East’s mission, and provides timely reports to the Board of Directors concerning progress in meeting agreed objectives;
- Develops and presents to the board program plans, and executes plans and policies authorized by the Board of Directors;
- Promotes active and broad participation by volunteers;
- As authorized by the Board of Directors, maintains official records and documents in compliance with federal, state, and local legislative and regulatory requirements.
Communications
- Informs the Board of Directors regarding operations, programming and current issues needed by the board to make informed decisions on a timely basis;
- Publicizes the activities of Arts Center East, its programs and goals;
- Establishes and maintains sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations willing and capable of supporting Arts Center East’s mission and its strategic goals and objectives;
- Represents Arts Center East and its programs to the general public, community groups and organizations.
Personnel
- Identifies, hires, and supervises candidates for staff positions authorized by the board of directors;
- Supports recruitment of candidates identified for Board membership
- Hires instructors for educational programming approved by the Board of Directors
- Hires presenters and performers for events approved by the Board of Directors
- Identifies and recruits volunteers appropriate to operating Arts Center East
- Develops and educates volunteers to execute programs approved by the Board of Directors; manages assignment of volunteers in accordance with their skills and operational needs of the Arts Center.
- Maintains a working environment that attracts, retains, and motivates a diverse group of volunteers.
Budget and Finance
- Develops and maintains financial principles and practices necessary to meet reporting and compliance requirements;
- Works with the Finance Committee to prepare a budget for Board approval;
- Manages Arts Center East operations within the board approved budget, including timely reports to the Board on revenue, expenses, and other items impacting the operating budget;
- Works with and at the direction of the Board of Directors to raise necessary operating funding;
- Conducts official correspondence of Arts Center East at the direction of the President and Secretary of the Board of Directors; executes legal documents at the direction of the President and Secretary of the Board of Directors.
Qualifications
The Executive Director will bring demonstrated leadership experience, ideally in a non-profit setting. A proven track record of success in fundraising, fiscal understanding and accountability, facilities management, and strategic partnership-building is essential. The successful candidate will exhibit exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including artists, staff, board members, donors, and community partners. The executive director will possess a deep commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion. No specific number of years of experience or specific educational credentials are required.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary for this non-benefited part-time position is $27,456.00 per year.
