Job Description
The Arts Council of Princeton’s Custodian performs all janitorial services, inside and outside of the building in addition to light building maintenance, and safety that promote a clean and safe working environment for the building’s employees and helps with setup and takedown of all events. The Full-Time Custodian reports to the Executive Director.
Regular Hours: A standard shift is Monday to Friday, 3pm - 11pm, however, weekend shifts are on occasion mandatory.

Specific responsibilities include:
- Spends a significant portion of the workweek cleaning the building.
- Daily cleaning all public spaces, bathrooms, offices, classrooms, mopping, kitchen, etc.
- Cleaning windows, mopping floors, vacuuming, restocking, refilling, elevators, windowsills, etc.
- Empty waste receptacles and transport contents to disposal containers
- Deep cleaning during semester breaks
- Responsible for exterior maintenance
- Terrace
- Roof
- Grounds
- Parking lot
- Light snow removal
- Light landscaping
- Trash collection
- Replace lighting
- Replace signage
- Putting away deliveries, including clay and other supplies
- Organize janitor closet, tool room and supplies.
- Responsible for light maintenance including
- Repairing equipment
- Painting
- Spackling
- Light bulbs
- Responsible for upkeep of the gallery between exhibitions; spackling, painting, pedestal storage
- Work with Office Manager for ordering supplies for facilities, programs, and events
- Work with Office Manager to support Rental Events
- Set up chairs, tables, and deal with logistics for rentals and events
The Custodian uses many soft skills and industry knowledge to maintain the commercial properties they oversee, including:
- Ability to work flexible hours: weekend and night shifts are on occasion mandatory
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques and products
- Proficiency with repair tools and techniques
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to speak with all levels of employees, guests, vendors, and team members
- Great time management, organization, and prioritization abilities
- Keen attention to detail and efficient problem-solving skills
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and comfortable standing or walking for extended periods of time
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, shovel snow and work at heights and outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions.
