What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teaching Artist position at Arts for All Nevada?
Arts for All Nevada is looking to expand our network of talented Teaching Artists. We provide art and creativity classes, camps, and workshops in schools and other community facilities in Washoe County, but we couldn’t do it without our teachers! We are looking for experienced artists with a passion for teaching and sharing skills with different groups. This is an opportunity to share your talent and creativity with others, while continuing to work as an artist and educator. This is a contract position, not a staff position.
The ideal candidate would have a minimum of two years’ experience teaching art to kids, exceptional organization skills, and the ability to create curriculum that enables children to learn different arts skills in a variety of mediums.
Teaching Artists are responsible for teaching in multiple classrooms in Washoe County including Washoe County Schools, private events, contracted classes with other organizations, and on location at the Lake Mansions Arts and Cultural Center. Teaching Artists need to be available throughout the week. While our primary audience is children, we also teach art classes for adults as well.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experienced in teaching visual art and/or creative movement to children, a minimum of 2 or more years required
- Experienced in using diverse art media
- Must be highly flexible
- Excellent teaching, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently
- Strong organizational skills
Have excellent ability to manage classroom environment effectively
- Experienced in developing K-12 visual art curriculum preferred
Job Duties:
- Communicate learning objectives to students and teachers
- Administer time effectively
- Create a positive and engaging environment for student learning and involvement
- Evaluate effectiveness of course curriculum and adjust instruction and materials as appropriate
- Maintain and organize art supplies
- Maintain appropriate standards of behavior, mutual respect, and safety
- Demonstrate professionalism and be an ambassador for Arts for All Nevada and represent the organization among teachers, administrators, and the community
