Senior Editor
Founded in 2009, ArtsATL is the only publication offering full coverage of the arts in metro Atlanta. Published online with sections devoted to Art Design, Theater, Music, Dance, Film TV, Books and the Events Calendar, ArtsATL is recognized as the authoritative voice on the arts in Atlanta.
We are looking for a part-time (20 hours a week) senior editor to oversee the Art Design and Dance sections of our publication.
Skills required:
- Candidate must live in metro Atlanta.
- Candidate must have an interest in, and basic knowledge of, Atlanta’s arts scene.
- Candidate will work remotely and use their own computer and relevant office supplies.
- Candidate must have strong journalistic writing skills and at least 7 years of experience writing about the arts for mainstream media or journalism-driven websites, and at least two years’ experience as an editor.
- Candidate must have at least a rudimentary knowledge of SEO.
- Candidate must be comfortable with daily deadlines, five days a week.
Responsibilities include:
- Stay up to speed on happenings in the Dance and Art Design scenes in Atlanta – events, people, issues.
- Work with the ArtsATL editorial team to develop a balanced roster of stories from each arts discipline every week.
- Assign writers, edit their work, post the final copy on Word Press with photos, links, SEO-friendly tags.
- Bring in new writers as needed, with an eye on diversity.
- Write news briefs, our new things to do listings and other general, non-byline copy, as needed.
- Ensure that all photos used on the site have the required press usage clearance from the people or institutions that provide them.
- Ensure that ArtsATL’s coverage fairly represents the diversity of Atlanta’s arts community.
- Attend all internal meetings, as needed. (Most are on Zoom or Google Meet)
- Keep track of their sections’ budgets.
As we continue to grow our audience and coverage, there is the potential the position could transition to full-time.
