The Lead Instructor role is a position designed to deliver high-quality educational programs across various disciplines through the TAB (Teaching for Artistic Behavior), Choice Art, or Studio Thinking teaching methodologies. This role encompasses teaching, curriculum development, and leading special events like birthday parties and camp, ensuring a cohesive and enriching learning experience for all students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement diverse lesson plans, including studio art and machine sewing, with a detailed supply list for each module.
- Collaborate with the Studio Coordinator and Studio Assistant to prepare materials and setups, ensuring an efficient learning environment.
- Share lesson plans with leadership and staff ahead of events, promoting collaborative task management and shift efficiency.
- Create an inclusive teaching atmosphere that values diversity, encouraging exploration of global art forms and cultural connections.
- Empower students to express their thoughts and opinions on art, adapting teaching methods to diverse learning styles.
- Set annual goals for professional development, focusing on enhancing teaching strategies and support mechanisms.
- Coordinate and lead special events, such as birthday parties or camp, with educational components.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment.
- Welcome students, take attendance, and communicate activities and progress to parents and caregivers, emphasizing inclusivity for all communities.
- Provide personalized guidance and support for students on their creative and educational paths.
- Guide the development of artistic skills and critical thinking, emphasizing the importance of Developing Craft, Engaging and Persisting in creative projects, Envisioning artistic expressions, and Reflecting on personal and peer artworks.
- Encourage Stretching and Exploring new ideas, fostering appreciation and understanding of art.
- Introduce students to diverse artistic practices and global art forms, nurturing an appreciation for cultural diversity and promoting inclusivity within the classroom.
- Work collaboratively with Staff and Parents to enhance learning outcomes and resolve concerns.
- Tailor content for different age groups, fostering creativity and planning end-of-class sharing sessions for community building and reflection.
- Utilize compassionate classroom management techniques, including social-emotional and behavioral interventions, to maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Support the social and emotional development of children, meeting them where they are to provide a nurturing and effective educational experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong communication and familiarity with studio art practices.
- One (1) year minimum teaching and curriculum development in studio art, sewing, or early childhood education.
- CPR/First Aid Certified or willing to become certified.
- College graduate or equivalent work experience.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Background Check required.
Nice to Have Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field: Art Education, Museum Education, Studio Art, Art History, Education, or a closely related field.
- Knowledge of Studio Thinking, Studio Habits of Mind, TAB (Teaching for Artistic Behavior), or Choice Art teaching methodologies.
Other Job Characteristics:
- Occasional lifting of supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the studio and its programs.
- Strong classroom management skills and experience working with diverse age groups.
- This role is part-time with a primary focus on weekends and weeknights, accommodating our diverse program offerings. During camp sessions, the schedule shifts to primarily weekday hours to support our immersive camp experiences. Flexibility to adapt to these varying schedules is essential.
