Mental Health Professional

Reports to: Supervisor of Substance Use Services

Education, Certifications and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED and five (5) years supervised experience in mental health or human services or
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or
  • Practical nurse license or
  • Certificate of psychiatric rehabilitation plus two (2) years of experience providing mental health services or
  • Recovery support specialist certified (CRSS) plus one (1) year experience in providing mental health services or
  • Occupational therapy assistant licensed and one (1) year of experience in a mental health setting.

Experience:

  • Knowledge and ability to cultivate community partnerships, and establish/ maintain good rapport
  • Communicates clearly, effectively, and with empathy, demonstrating awareness and use of de-stigmatizing language
  • Well-organized and can manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Strong advocacy skills
  • Demonstrates business acumen (desired, will train)
  • Empirical and practical knowledge of substance use
  • Prior experience as a consumer advocate, providing consumer information and support for individuals functioning within the pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization and recovery maintenance stages (Preferred).
  • Prior exposure with lived experience in mental health/substance use issues.

Responsibilities:

RENEW (70%, approximate, Supervisor will determine as caseload grows)

  • Establish good rapport and collaborate with community partners, including but not limited to parole officers, discharge planners, sober living environments, business employment skills, transportation systems, food pantries, housing authorities, substance use providers, faith-based partners, and county and municipal government.
  • Establish positive relationships with landlords participating in RENEW program.
  • Review tenant agreements, conduct IM-CANS, employ vetting and screening for determination of client as fit for program.
  • Facilitate placement of clients in RENEW housing, including but not limited to arranging initial inspection of property, facilitating minor alterations and procurement of supplies for client, and assisting with moving the client.
  • Determine baseline needs of client regarding clinical services, recovery support services, employment, transportation, and other resources. Conduct warm handoff of client to resources.
  • Perform regular, minimum of weekly, contacts with client to facilitate substance use testing and progress on treatment/recovery goals. Ensure compliance of participants with program guidelines. Document encounters within 24 hours of client visit.
  • Employ Motivational Interviewing and coaching of tenants to achieve housing timeline goals and objectives.
  • Meet weekly with Supervisor to discuss client progress on clinical treatment, employment, recovery, and program needs.
  • Advocate for program participants, educating key stakeholders on facets of recovery journey in order to keep practices evidence-based and fight off cultural stigma.
  • Collaborate with participants’ care team to ensure seamless care coordination.
  • Comply with Arukah security and monitoring procedures via wearables for off-site work.

Recovery Support Services (30% approximate, as assigned)

  • Conduct crisis screening and assessment (IM-CAT).
  • Conduct case management services, including advocacy and assistance in accessing clinical and community resources, such as treatment, education, housing, transportation, and other social determinants needs.
  • Assist guidance of the recovery process and development of individual Wellness Recovery Action Plans.
  • Assist in building and developing life skills to promote independence
  • Provide support for persons reentering.
  • Employ documentation of Living Room services within 24 hours.

General Responsibilities:

  • Function as an effective team member and represent the agency in a professional manner (e.g. attend staff meetings, comply with policy and procedure and operations guidelines)
  • Conduct other duties as assigned, as directed by Supervisor of Substance Use Services, which may include functions within scope of practice that occur outside of RENEW and Recovery Support Programs
  • Successfully complete all required trainings.

Job Type:

Pay:

  • $22.75 - $29.13 per hour

Schedule/Shift Availability:

  • 8-12 hour shifts, scheduled around client availability
  • Day shift, with some evening hours based on client availability
  • Occasional weekend hours to meet RENEW client needs

  • Off-site and in-home (primary), to reduce barriers to care
  • In office

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or other combination of credentials (see above)

Ability to Relocate:

  • Bureau, LaSalle, Marshall or Putnam Counties: Relocate before starting work (Required)
