ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Assist instructional personnel with the preparation and presentation of learning materials, instructional support, and learning aides.
* Under the supervision of a certificated teacher or specialist, assist in providing lessons and other classroom, small group, or one-to-one activities.
* Monitor and assist students with special learning needs in drill, practice, and study activities as a follow-up to the presentation of instructional lessons by instructional personnel.
* Accompany students going from one location to another as assigned.
* Request appropriate assistance for serious pupil injury or illness.
* May assist with medical emergencies, perform first aid, and administer medication under the supervision of the District Nurse or LVN and following appropriate training.
* Attend meetings and training required by the district.
* Direct students into safe learning activities and functions, and assist in shaping appropriate social behaviors.
* Assist in the management of student behavior through the use of positive reinforcement strategies and techniques.
* Confer with the teacher, School Psychologist, or specialist about necessary accommodations and/or modifications needed by individual students in the general education classroom.
* Monitor classroom activities when the teacher is briefly absent from the room (TK-8th grade).
* Support maintenance of a variety of records and files, including confidential student records and information.
* Operate and assist students in the operation of a variety of instructional media.
* Monitor and assist in the remediation of specific learning problems.
* Assist students with activities to develop small muscle and eye-hand coordination.
* Help students with projects and work experience activities.
* Maintain or assist in maintaining an orderly, attractive, and positive learning environment. * Assist children with special physical needs.

These requirements apply to paraprofessionals providing instructional support who are employed at a Title I school, regardless of the paraprofessional funding (EC Section 45330, 20 U.S.C. Section 1112[c][6])
* High school diploma or the equivalent, and
* Two years of college (48 units), or
* A. A. degree (or higher), or
* Pass a local assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction. (This is a locally approved assessment. Local educational agencies may develop their own assessment or use an existing assessment so long as it measures the knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction. Many districts use the CBEST for this purpose).
Salary : $18 - $23
