Overview
Busy Primary Care Office seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Check-Out and Referral Coordinator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating patient care and referrals upon patient departure, collecting outstanding payments (i.e., coinsurance/deductibles), ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations, and facilitating effective communication and follow-up care between patients and healthcare providers. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding and insurance processes.
Duties
- Facilitate patient check-out process, to include reviewing provider orders, scheduling follow-up appointments and collecting funds on account.
- Coordinate patient referrals to specialists and ensure timely processing of all referral requests.
- Verify insurance coverage prior to scheduling appointments.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Utilize coding systems such as ICD-10 for accurate billing and claims processing.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding their referral status and appointment details.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure seamless patient care and follow-up.
- Assist in the management of overall front office coordination.
- Manage end-of-day finances and batch out practices.
- Willingness to cross-train and assist with other miscellaneous office tasks as directed.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical terminology is essential.
- Familiarity with coding systems including ICD-10 and medical coding practices is a plus.
- Experience with insurance verification processes and handling medical records is required.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
