Role Specific Details

This position is a key member of the leadership team in Revenue Accounting. The RA Manager, Interline/Revenue Recognition is responsible for accurate and timely accounting of passenger and ancillary revenue for Alaska Air Group. This role interfaces frequently with partners both inside and outside the company, including the Alliances, Revenue Management, and Financial Accounting. This role is the primary liaison for Interline billing with other airlines, including all oneWorld Alliance partners.

 

This role leads a team of supervisors, accountants, and accounting specialists, and should be able to interact successfully with all team members, as well as various leaders across the organization. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

 

This Manager will also help lead the interline and statistics teams through the upcoming integration with our newest group airline, Hawaiian Airlines. A successful candidate will be a proven leader of teams, projects and processes. 

 

Airline industry experience is preferred, and the ability to travel occasionally to represent AAG in industry airline working groups is highly preferred.

Role Summary

The Manager, Revenue Accounting is responsible for executing on the strategy for the Revenue Accounting teams at Alaska Air Group (AAG). As a people leader, the Manager, Revenue Accounting leads and establishes priorities for the team to accurately and timely record AAG Air Traffic Liability, Revenue Recognition and other related financial entries and reporting in compliance with all internal, regulatory and airline industry rules and standards.

Key Duties

  • Leads teams as assigned and establishes priorities for the processing and recording of over $10 billion in AAG passenger revenue.
  • Makes decisions and provides subject matter expertise in financial audits of AAG sales and revenue.
  • Primary contact for multiple third-party vendors. Provides feedback and oversight of vendor performance. Ensures expectations are met and corrective actions taken when needed.
  • Makes decisions and changes to ensure quality data and timely reporting goals are achieved, while at the same time meeting internal and SOX control standards, productivity, and cost goals.
  • Cultivates and collaborates effectively with other cross-divisional teams to determine accurate ticketing / sales reporting and revenue recognition processes when changes are proposed to up-line operations or systems.
  • Provides input in the strategy with cross-divisional teams working on key initiative / IT / Marketing projects.
  • Implements procedural or process changes as they relate to the transactional processing, account reconciliation, and internal controls.
  • Develops people through effective performance management and ongoing, consistent feedback, and ensures staffing levels are adequate in all areas of responsibility within the Revenue Accounting team.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

  • 5 years of experience in accounting.
  • 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Proven experience developing and executing plans, meeting deadlines, and operating under tight time constraints.
  • Familiarity with GAAP, SOX, and SEC regulations, and a strong understanding and focus on internal accounting controls.
  • Ability to develop a strong, detailed, working knowledge of airline revenue accounting processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and clearly communicate cross-divisionally, including company leaders.
  • Ability to work effectively with others throughout all levels in the organization and vendor companies.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on the business needs.
  • High organization, attention to detail, workload prioritization and time management skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • 2 years of experience functionally supporting a Passenger Revenue Accounting system, or related experience.
  • Experience making articulate and effective verbal and written presentations to different audiences.
  • Experience leading bargaining unit employees.
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member as well as take on individual responsibility.
  • Ability to simplify revenue accounting processes within AAG while achieving compliance to internal control standards.
  • Ability to lead, build, and develop teams through formal and informal feedback.
  • Ability to effectively manage relationships, instruct and coach employees, and drive for results.
  • A Master of Arts/Science degree or a Master of Business Administration degree.
  • Professional certifications or equivalent of CPA, CMA, CFM, or CIA.

Salary Range

$113,200 - $169,800 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

 

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
