Clinical Documentation Auditor Educator

PLEASE NOTE: This is remote optional position. However due to our pay practices, qualified candidates MUST reside within one of the following states: AZ, CO, FL, GA, ID, KY, ME, MI, MT, NC, NM, NV, OH, OR, TN, TX, UT, WA. While candidates need to live or relocate to one of the aforementioned states, working remotely will require reliable broadband internet and personal cell phone service. Remote work may include working day-to-day operations during Pacific Standard business hours or online training.
Position Summary
The Clinical Documentation Auditor/Educator leads and supports the Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) team through active participation in physician, coder, and clinical staff engagement and education. The CDI Auditor/Educator is responsible for supporting and facilitating the overall quality improvement process of the documentation in the medical record by improving the completeness and accuracy of the clinical documentation. This person functions as a subject matter expert with the primary responsibility of working directly with the CDI specialists/coders/providers to educate and engage staff in increasing their knowledge and understanding of ICD-10 documentation requirements, query opportunities, provider relationship building, clinical concepts, industry best practices, auditing outcomes and identifying further development opportunities.
The Auditor/Educator assists CDIS in account reconciliation to ensure completeness of coding and documentation accuracy. The incumbent will be responsible for identification of patterns, trends, and opportunities for the entire CDI team including acute care facilities and outpatient teams, to improve accuracy and outcomes. The CDI Auditor/Educator reports to the CDI manager as an individual contributor and provides recommendations on clinical documentation quality improvement and education programs.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration required
- Master's degree in Nursing or related field, preferred
Experience
- 2 years nursing experience in clinical practice areas such as acute care hospital, physician clinics, quality, case management, performance improvement, or informatics plus 3 years in clinical documentation is required
Licensure/Certifications
- RN: Registered Nurse by the Oregon State Board of Nursing required upon start
- Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) or Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist- outpatient (CCDS-O) required upon start
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS); Certified Professional Coder (CPC); or other coding certification through AHIMA or AAPC required within 12 months of hire
