Position Summary
The Drug Diversion Surveillance Analyst, a pharmacy technician, will be responsible for daily, monthly, and ongoing monitoring of all controlled substance (CS) activities, including storage, inventory, preparation, and delivery. The analyst will partner with the Medication Safety/Drug Diversion Coordinator to monitor nursing, pharmacy, and provider CS handling. Works with data analytics and metrics to assist in generating diversion prevention action plans. The analyst will keep abreast of relevant standards and regulations, including those from CMS, accreditation bodies, Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), relevant state boards. The analyst plays an important role in drug diversion prevention, detection, and response activities. Reports to the Pharmacy Shared Services Manager.
Position Qualifications
Education
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate as required for the position.required
Certifications
One of the following 3 certifications isrequired at time of hire
- CPT:Certified Pharmacy Technician by Oregon Board of Pharmacy,or
- CPHT: Certified Pharmacy Technician through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)or
- ExCPT: Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians through the NHA (National Healthcareer Association)
Must be obtained within 12 months of accepting the position
- ASHP: American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Drug Diversion Certificate
Experience
- 4-6 years of experience in healthcare, including 2 years in a hospital pharmacy setting, with expertise in pharmacy operations, drug diversion standards, and regulatory compliance.
- Proficient in utilizing pharmacy-specific software, Automated Dispensing Units (ADU), and Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Knowledgeable in medication handling, storage, dispensing, and administration processes.
