POSITION OVERVIEW
The Data Scientist will work under the Lead Data Scientist of Advanced Analytics Group on a variety of projects, including process optimization, operational intelligence, and strategic data analysis. They will be responsible for owning and driving the end-to-end data science lifecycle for their assigned initiatives. Applying Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML) as well as operations research techniques to solve real-world business challenges in the mining industry across different functions of the company.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Frame the problem to be solved as a business problem and then as an analytical problem that can be solved with advanced analytics techniques (AI/ML, mathematical optimization, or simulation).
Perform data extraction and cleaning as well as working with subject matter experts in developing an understating of the data from a business perspective.
Build AI/ML, mathematical optimization, or simulation models.
Build data pipelines and deploy models on Microsoft Azure.
Build and design Power BI dashboards to serve model outputs or strategic insights to end users.
Prepare PowerPoint presentations explaining the approach taken for the assigned project and presenting the insights to upper management.
Provide support to upper management on ad-hoc analyses and presentations.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong understanding and experience applying in machine learning, statistics, mathematical optimization, or simulation to solve complex business problems (experience in all fields is not needed but familiarity with concepts is welcomed).
Programming skills in Python or R and familiarity with common data science libraries (e.g.: Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Tidyverse, Tidymodels).
Experience with data visualization tools, preferably Power BI.
Experience with cloud computing, preferably Microsoft Azure.
Understanding of MLOps, model deployment, and model monitoring.
Collaborative attitude and ability to communicate complex ideas to non-technical stakeholders.
Excellent problem-solving skills and comfort working in ambiguous and unstructured problems.
Spoken language of Spanish or English, both are preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in data science, engineering, operations research, statistics, computer science, or a related field.
