Job Summary
Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain heavy equipment and roadway machinery, light vehicles.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
- Troubleshoot and perform heavy repairs to all types of equipment components including gas and diesel engines, transmissions and differentials, hydraulic pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, various work heads, booms, electrical systems and conveyor belt systems
- Solve work related problems, make decisions, and provide instructions
- Understand mechanical operations of machinery
- Drive heavy duty service truck, including truck mounted crane
- May be required to pull trailers
Minimum Qualifications
- High School/GED
- 21 years of age or older
- Valid Driver's License
- Read and understand schematic drawings
- Basic knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical and electronic systems, and pneumatic systems as it pertains to the operation and maintenance of roadway machinery, heavy equipment, light vehicles
- Basic Competencies
- Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications)
- Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions)
- Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills)
- Mechanical aptitude
- Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on an occasional basis
Employment Conditions
- Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries
- Wear protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, safety-toe boots, or safety glasses
- Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work
- Complete annual training and pass safety and track worker rules examination
- Require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol
- Must pass a background screening, pre-employment physical and Pre-employment drug test
- May work outside in all weather conditions depending on job assignment.
