Mechanic A

POSITION OVERVIEW

Perform all maintenance activities and tasks in a fixed plant, including shop repairs, field preventive and predictive maintenance on mills, crushers, conveyors, pumps, pipes, and structural repairs. Working with varies types of chemicals and understanding proper PPE. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• ·       Skilled mechanic who, under supervision, safely performs maintenance, installation, and repair of equipment and processes at the Hayden complex to include mills, conveyors, screens, cone crushers, filters, fans, pumping systems, hydraulic systems, lubrication systems, overhead cranes and like systems.
• ·       Troubleshooting pump systems including horizontal and vertical pumps.
• ·       Repair of HDPE pipe systems including cutting and fusion
• ·       Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work area and performing work area inspections.
• ·       Weld (Stick/Tig) with multiple types of materials including stainless and mild steels.
• ·       Diagnose and repair construction type plumbing, including water and sewage systems.  
• ·       Ability to rebuild small pumps including Flowserve, Warman, Ash, Shurco, Denver and diaphragm pumps.
• ·       Perform mechanical and lubrication preventative maintenance: identify potential failures/noises/wear on agitators, rotors, belts, pulleys, gear boxes.
• ·       Properly communicate the status of his assigned job with the relieving shift mechanics and shop supervisors.
• ·       Operate and maintain diagnostic tools and alignment units.
• ·       Ability to operate mine equipment such as overhead cranes, boom trucks, forklifts, man-baskets, etc.
• ·       Must understand Asarco environmental policies; understand and practice all safety procedures for work environment and demonstrate effective communication skills.
• ·       Follow Standard operating Procedures (SOP) and work area instructions and participate in safety and environmental activities.
• ·       Must have basic tools to perform jobs.

 REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• ·       Applicant must have good communications skills (oral and written).
• ·       Must be able to manage time effectively and set priorities.
• ·       Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks and troubleshoot problems.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals in English.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
•  Ability to read and use schematics/blueprints.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Must be capable of lifting a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Availability to work any shift, including weekends and holidays. (Shifts may be rotating; operations are (24/7/365).
• Ability to work in adverse climate/temperature environment.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• ·   Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• ·    Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or minimum two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, and/or state approved apprenticeship.
• ·       Welding certifications (MIG, TIG, Stick)
