What are the responsibilities and job description for the Metallurgical Engineer II position at Asarco LLC?
POSITION OVERVIEW
Provide technical support as needed, prepares programs to achieve or surpass forecasted production, and requires a high level of technical competency in LSXEW metallurgy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Executes metallurgical improvement programs using bottle roll, column, and other laboratory test work.
· Perform assays and metallurgical indexes, such as extraction efficiency, current efficiency, and leaching efficiency.
· Generates geometallurgical data and production correlations.
· Perform any metallurgical tasks as required.
· Able to analyze and determine correctness of daily metallurgical reporting.
· Communicate and coordinate closely with operators, supervisors, and others to offer technical support to achieve copper cathode production targets.
· Perform audits on SXEW circuits to find potential areas of improvement.
· Leaching modeling and estimation of leachable copper still available.
· Assist in training and mentoring junior metallurgical staff in gaining new skills and achieving their full potential.
· By providing data-driven technical analysis aid in optimizing costs for the SXEW Department.
· Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety program as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles.
· Research new value chains or flowsheet optimization strategies for the mine site.
· Approve or order any materials and other supplies pertaining to work scope through SAP, while ensuring cost-effectiveness.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Advance knowledge of metallurgical testing, derivation of metallurgical index, plant balance, and sample preparation techniques.
· Expertise of chemical and laboratory best practices and procedures.
· Has been involved with leaching models.
· Must be proficient with Office Suite.
· Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
· Strong interpersonal skills in developing consensus building.
· Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
· Advanced laboratory knowledge.
· Basic mechanical and equipment knowledge is preferred.
· Applicant must have good communications skills (oral and written).
· Must be able to manage time effectively and set priorities.
· Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks and troubleshoot problems.
· Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals in English.
· Ability to write articles and presentations for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
· Ability to work in adverse climate/temperature environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Degree in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering.
· 5 years of metallurgical experience in plants or laboratories.
· College level English.
· Master’s degree in Statistics, Metallurgy, Mining, Chemical engineering, Administration or other related discipline is a plus.
· Candidates must possess a current and valid driver’s license.
