What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mine Engineer Technician position at Asarco LLC?
POSITION OVERVIEW
In coordination with the Technical Services Department, locate and sample drill pattern blastholes throughout the mine. Deliver collected samples to the QA/QC laboratory. Perform sample preparation for laboratory analysis according to established standard operating procedure. After sample collection & preparation duties, assist laboratory personnel. This is a labor-intensive position. Must be comfortable spending 60% of time outdoors in all weather conditions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•
Determine where drilled holes are located using software.
•
Update daily maps of drilled blast patterns.
•
Create sample bags and numbering of daily blastholes, record, and input in software.
•
Collect and deliver daily mine samples to QA/QC laboratory.
•
Perform sample preparation of mine samples for laboratory analysis, including crushing, pulverizing, and splitting.
•
Maintain a clean work area after prep duties.
•
Maintain sample preparation equipment.
•
Maintain QA/QC records for blanks, blind certified standards, and pulp and field duplicates.
•
Assist Laboratory personnel with routine assays and chemical determinations.
•
Assist Technical Services staff with requests as needed.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
•
Maintain working inventory of mine sampling and sample preparation materials.
•
Willingness to learn a variety of analytical instrumentation.
•
Willingness to learn laboratory and mining software.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
•
Good physical condition and desire to work outside.
•
An interest to work in a laboratory setting.
•
Aptitude to always follow Standard Operating Procedures.
•
Aptitude to learn software.
•
Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications.
•
A desire to work as a team member and help others.
•
Good communication skills.
•
Willingness to cover shifts for co-workers, when needed.
