MINE OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR I
The Mine Operations Supervisor plays a critical role in overseeing the daily operations of a mining and haulage crew, ensuring the effective placement of materials essential for the concentrating and leaching processes. This position involves leading and managing teams, providing guidance to enhance performance and efficiency while fostering a positive work environment that promotes teamwork and adherence to company values. Upholding a strong safety culture is paramount. The Mine Operations Supervisor ensures that all safety protocols and regulations are followed, conducting regular safety inspections and audits to address any concerns immediately.
Additionally, this supervisor identifies training needs for crew members, facilitating skill development to enhance operational capabilities and mentoring employees to foster their growth within the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develop and implement plans that prioritize safety, operational efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure the safe, productive, and cost-efficient operation of all mining equipment.
- Conduct safety observations and area inspections in accordance with Safety and Health Department requirements.
- Adhere to and enforce directives issued by Chief, and Senior Supervisors as well as upper management.
- Identify opportunities for improvement within the mine, formulating project schedules and effectively utilizing resources to achieve objectives.
- Promote employee health and safety by ensuring compliance with all applicable safety and mining regulations, as well as company policies.
- Prepare detailed accident or incident reports as necessary during shifts.
- Accurately review and enter notifications into the SAP system.
- Enforce adherence to company policies and standards, implementing progressive disciplinary actions as required.
- Coordination of daily activities of the Mine Operations (drilling, blasting, loading, haulage activities, along with checking and reporting pit conditions (roads, tiedowns, berms, shovel pits and dumps)
- Evaluation of employees while working with the training department to develop training needs and analysis of operators.
- Communicate objectives and goals to employees and monitor their development.
- Daily tracking of employee’s schedule, vacations, call offs, absenteeism, and any other schedule related items.
- Interact with other departments such as maintenance, safety, human resources etc. to ensure compliance with established company standards and to achieve daily goals.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Coordinate equipment availability with maintenance department.
- Inputting daily timekeeping, safety, and turnover documentation.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Thorough understanding of the entire mining process.
- Thorough understanding of local, state and federal mining and environmental regulations.
- Supervisory/leadership skills required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills required.
- Intermediate computer skills utilizing MS Office
- Must be able to work rotating shifts and holidays (24/7/365 operation)
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED.
- 5-years mine operations experience.
- 1-year supervisory experience in a mine operations environment.
ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY
- The job requires training or instruction in environmental Awareness.
- This job requires training or instruction in Safety & Health awareness including completion of the appropriate MSHA training.
