POSITION OVERVIEW
Highly skilled Blasthole Drill Mechanic Trainer that will perform on the job training to advance the skills and ability of the drill mechanical work force while demonstrating the tasks associated with the removal, repair, installation, system analysis, diagnosis, advanced troubleshooting, and system/process optimization of Epiroc PV311 and PV351 blasthole drills. This position is a hands-on assignment that will work side-by-side with the workforce to ensure knowledge transfer and the use of best practices in the drill mechanical field.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provide individual mentoring and training for the Drill Mechanic work force.- Review and update standard operating procedures and job task instructions.
- Recommend and assist in the development of action plans to enhance the mechanical repair processes and reliability.
- Reinforce best safety practices, company policy, and ensure that the work force knows the hazards associated with working around mechanical and 24V electrical systems.
- Operate a computer/Laptop and use maintenance diagnostic computer systems diagnosing faults using computerized testing for RCS and EARS systems.
- Promote continuous improvement within the Drill Mechanic work force by instructing and demonstrating the ability to remove, repair, replace, test, analyze, diagnose, advance troubleshoot, and optimize Mechanical Systems for Epiroc PV311 and PV351 blasthole drills:
o Drill engine, HOC, and COC cooling systems.
o 3000 CFM rotary twin screw air compressor pneumatic systems.
o Lincoln type central auto lubrication systems
o Heavy duty industrial gearbox and planetary type transmissions
o High-Pressure Hydraulic Systems.
o Tier 4 Engine & Exhaust Systems.
o Drill string components, including shock subs, drill stems, bit subs, and bits.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Proven work experience as a Blasthole Drill Mechanic, Maintaining and Repairing Epiroc Pit Viper drills.- Knowledge of Tier 4 Engine and Exhaust systems.
- Knowledge of High-Pressure Hydraulic systems, how they work, how to troubleshoot and how to repair.
- Operate a computer/Laptop and use maintenance diagnostic computer systems diagnosing RCS and EARS faults using computerized testing equipment.
- Proficient use of Oxygen/Acetylene Torches for Cutting and Heating.
- Ability to identify petroleum products usage and disposal.
- Knowledge of procedures and positioning for checking fluid levels on all mine equipment.
- Knowledge of oil, coolant sample collection and analysis.
- Working knowledge of shop, field preventive maintenance process, and field fueling procedures.
- Must maintain daily service reports, and equipment status reports for technical questions.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Ability to teach and mentor.
- Ability to read, understand, and apply information from technical manuals, drawings, prints, and schematics for installation, troubleshooting and repair including hydraulic, 24V electrical, and pneumatic schematics.
- Ability to lead and complete job assignments in a timely manner.
- Mentor and/or train other drill mechanic employees and apprentices.
- Ability to be trained and to operate equipment including but not limited to aerial lift, reach forklift, boom trucks, knuckle boom, and overhead cranes.
- Applicant must have effective written, visual, electronic, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety related instructions and procedures given in English.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

- The physical requirements of the position are considered Heavy Work: Exerting up to 80 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- The ability to work in conditions of extreme heat, extreme cold, and vibration. May involve work with or near chemicals including but not limited to airborne and/or skin exposure, high noise levels, confined spaces, and heights.
- Ability to wear respirator in conditions of fumes, odors, dusts, mist, gases, or poor ventilation.
- Ability to ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, stairs, ramps, and the like with agility.
- Availability to work any shift, including weekends and holidays (shifts may be rotating). Mine operations are 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year).
- Provide and maintain the minimum personal tools as described by the department tool list or be able to obtain them within 90 days of hire.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- 5 years related experience as a mining Blasthole Drill Mechanic and certification as a Journeymen Drill Mechanic through a state approved apprenticeship program (or)
- 7 years related experience as a Drill Mechanical experience and associate degree or Trade School Certification in a related field.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- English language fluency.
- Air Conditioning Certification
