Position Title: Senior Network Administrator
Department: Library Information and Technology Services
Reports to: Director of Administrative Technology
FSA Classification: Exempt
Rate of Pay: $47,000 Annually
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Network Administrator supports the Seminary through design, implementation and maintenance of solutions to the Seminary’s servers, infrastructure, network and application service needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage network infrastructure and systems
- Configure and manage company routers and switches in addition to VPN configuration and policy enforcement.
- Provide support for DNS, DHCP scopes, wireless network, and all network printing services (e.g. Papercut).
- Implement and maintain Cisco and Sonicwall networking equipment to include routers and firewall devices.
- Test new versions of virtualization software
- Analyze server resource usage to measure efficiency and determine upgrade needs
- Manage and maintain the Seminary’s server environment and all server-based software.
- Build, optimize and maintain Linux and Windows servers both physical and virtual.
- Build, optimize and maintain Linux and Windows servers on cloud services.
- Build and maintain Linux web servers.
- Install, configure and optimize performance of all server based software.
- Perform and verify centralized backups of Linux and Windows servers.
- Research, design and implement solutions that optimize server provisioning, configuration management, performance
- Regularly review network and server configurations to identify potential problems or growth areas.
- Design, develop and implement systems monitoring and alerting solutions.
- Assist in establishing and implementing configuration management program and policies
- Maintain security of internal and external networks
- Ensure compliance with relevant institutional, local, state, and federal laws and guidelines regarding privacy and security
- Perform regular periodic security and performance testing on Seminary systems.
- Design and implement disaster recovery/business continuity solutions
- Provide primary line of support for all business-critical Seminary servers and systems
- Troubleshoot and debug environment and infrastructure problems found in the production and non-production environments.
- Review server logs for anomalies or errors.
- Monitor software used to send alerts when network problems occur.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the Support area with Tier II and above support requests as needed.
- On call for issues related to Systems and Administrative Technology.
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY/AUTHORITY:
- Assists in the annual budget proposal development process
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION, SKILLS AND ABILITIES, EXPERIENCE:
- Undergraduate or Technical degree in information systems or equivalent experience required.
- Ability to identify, analyze and troubleshoot problems required.
- Knowledge of Cisco IOS and TCP/IP network layer required.
- Knowledge of Dell Sonicwall products required
- Knowledge of VMWare for server virtualization required.
- Knowledge of iSCSI storage area networks required (Dell EqualLogic).
- Knowledge of GNU/Linux Server and Windows Server operating systems required.
- Knowledge of Jenkins CI desired.
- Comfortable with open source software and communities required.
- Comfortable with git source control
- Knowledge of Chef configuration management
- Knowledge of Microsoft server solutions including but not limited to Server 2019 and Microsoft SQL server
- Be able to maintain confidentiality, due to access to highly sensitive data.
- Strong desire to learn and keep up with changes in technology
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
