Ascend is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance technician (i.e. mechanics) for our Chocolate Bayou plant located in Alvin, TX. The Mechanical maintenance technician will be responsible for the effective and efficient execution of mechanical maintenance work (e.g. pump repair).  The mechanic is expected to perform a quality repair (i.e. first time right) that ensures the reliable operation of the effected equipment.  Mechanical maintenance technicians are also expected to perform their tasks in a manner that ensures their safety as well as the safety of others and to recognize and mitigate any circumstance that could cause undue risk to the environment (e.g. reportable release).  Successful mechanics act responsibly and function effectively as an individual contributor in a team work environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adherence to all applicable safety policies and procedures
  • Execution of mechanical maintenance including corrective, preventive and predictive activities
  • Identification, procurement and utilization of proper repair materials and spare parts
  • Perform root cause failure analysis to confirm the failure mechanism and prevent a recurrence
  • Utilization of SAP (e.g. parts identification) and related systems including feedback as appropriate
  • Support Maintenance Planners and Work Coordinators in planning and execution of their work
  • Mark-up and feedback on master documents (e.g. drawings, BOM’s, repair procedures, etc.)
  • Collaboration with reliability SME’s to design and implement solutions to extend equipment life
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions individually or in partnership with processors
  • Develop new skills and capabilities that enhance their ability to contribute
  • Actively engage in continuous improvement activities that result in improved performance
  • Commit to and actively participate in equitable technician resource leveling, overtime allocation and vacation practices.
  • Communicate and maintain procedures, policies, plant direction/results and programs.
  • Ensure that training materials, procedures and records are maintained.
  • Ensure that the MOC process is followed.
  • Provide clear communication with management and operations team for all jobs.
  • Ensure all safety meetings are attended within the group

TEAM

  • Reports to: Mechanical Maintenance Front Line Lead
  • Team Members: Mechanical Maintenance Technicians

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years’ mechanical maintenance experience in the process industry

DESIRED EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

  • Associate Degree in Mechanical Technology or related discipline preferred
  • NCCER or equivalent certification required, or attained within 12-18 months

REQUIRED SKILLS

SAFETY

  • Must be able to demonstrate, based on past performance, personal safety management and adherence to safe work practices.
  • Must be participant in working in, and continuing to foster, a safe work culture.
  • Knowledge and understanding of regulatory/compliance issues and ESSH policies, guidelines and procedures in a highly hazardous chemical company is a plus.

TECHNICAL

  • Proficiency with applicable mechanical maintenance tools and equipment
  • Working knowledge of SAP and Window’s based programs (i.e. MS Office) preferred.
  • Mechanical maintenance (i.e. millwright) skills with rotating and reciprocating equipment experience
  • Proven ability to perform high level troubleshooting

  • Solid interpersonal and organizational skills with excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • A strong bias to “act on facts”, probe and “test” logic and develop creative solutions.
  • The confidence to deal with ambiguity and take risks to achieve better results while clearly articulating and planning to mitigate them if not fully successful
  • Proactive team-building skills with the ability to work effectively throughout the organization in a fast-paced matrix-structured reporting organization.
  • Collaborative working relationship with maintenance and production unit personnel
