SUMMARY
The scrub tech plays a pivotal role in the operating room (OR), assisting surgeons and the healthcare team during surgical procedures. This position demands technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)
- Preparation of the Operating Room : Ensure the OR is sterile, fully equipped, and organized with the necessary instruments and supplies to promote patient safety and reduce the risk of infections.
- Surgical Instrumentation : Anticipate surgeons’ needs by selecting and passing instruments efficiently, maintaining a sterile field, and minimizing the likelihood of complications.
- Patient Preparation : Assist in positioning and preparing patients on the operating table to ensure safety and comfort, helping to prevent adverse events.
- Surgical Assistance : Support surgeons during procedures by facilitating seamless workflows and contributing to improved outcomes, such as reduced complications and revisit rates.
- Equipment Operation : Operate and troubleshoot surgical equipment as needed to ensure safe and effective procedures.
- Sterile Technique : Maintain strict adherence to sterile protocols and best practices to lower infection rates and uphold patient safety.
- Post-Procedure Duties : Clean and sterilize instruments, restock supplies, and prepare the OR for the next procedure to sustain high standards of readiness and minimize infection risks.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
SKILLS / ABILITIES
Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, equipment, and procedures.
Ability to perform effectively under pressure and manage priorities during surgeries.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Unwavering commitment to maintaining sterile technique.
Physical stamina and dexterity for prolonged standing and patient positioning.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and to talk and hear. Employees may be occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Employees must occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds along with pushing and pulling on higher BMI patients. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, employees may be exposed to risk of infectious diseases when interacting with patients and / or family members. The employee may be occasionally exposed to wet and / or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
