About the Role:
Job Title: PostgreSQL Engineer III
Project Summary:
- We are seeking a highly experienced and organized PostgreSQL Engineer III in Phoenix, AZ. This person will be a supplement to the Database Engineering team. This team selects the operational database technologies used by the client and figures out how best to set them up.
- This person will be able to define, design, implement, test, and communicate the architectures, configurations, best practices, and standards for optimal use of database technologies across the company, both on-prem and in the cloud.
- The team evaluates new and upgraded database versions, features, components and extensions for performance, throughput, scalability, availability, and security; and they partner with the hosting, database administration, and operational support teams to operationalize and harden OLTP technology for financial applications.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Execute proof of concepts, Collaborate across functions
- Install, configure, patch, upgrade, deploy, and manage Postgres databases
- Evaluate and prepare new and upgraded Postgres and Postgres-compatible solutions for enterprise use
- Document and communicate new techniques, patterns, and best practices for the hosting, database administration, and operations support teams.
Required Qualifications:
- 5-7 years of experience with enterprise-scale Postgres deployments, including:
- Cluster management, Troubleshooting, Backup and restoration, Rolling upgrade techniques, Fault tolerance and failover, Replication, Monitoring and alerting, Security mechanisms
- High availability configurations for intra- and inter-data center environments
- Understanding of DBMS concepts such as ACID, CAP, and consistency
- Familiarity with Postgres internals, including durability, replication settings, and performance tuning
- Experience with Kubernetes and Docker
- Proficiency in coding with Python, Terraform, or other database-related tools
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Azure, AWS, or GCP
- Background as a Unix System Administrator
- Knowledge of modern storage and compute technologies, such as hyper-converged infrastructures
Location: Pheonix, AZ (3 days onsite a week)
Salary Range: The salary for this position is between $120,000 – $150,000 annually. Factors that may affect pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
