What are the responsibilities and job description for the AS400 System Operator position at Ascendo Resources?
Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the IT Manager, the AS400 Computer Operator is responsible for executing daily technical operations within the bank’s IT infrastructure. This includes handling scheduled tasks using AS/400 systems, microcomputer networks, and the phone switch. While routine assignments are handled independently, any exceptions or issues are reported to the appropriate supervisor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute nightly PCOMB processes and load required files
- Follow and complete run sheets and operational procedures
- Perform save and restore operations on libraries and system objects
- Verify backup success and diagnose issues using job and system logs
- Monitor system activity, including messages, batch jobs, device statuses, and printer queues
- Configure and manage devices, printers, writers, and controllers
- Display device addresses for local workstation controllers
- Submit, monitor, and manage jobs (active, queued, completed, and interactive)
- Access and interpret the history and job logs for troubleshooting
- Start, stop, and manage subsystems and system operations
- Understand and manage job queues (priority, FIFO, etc.)
- Review and install Program Temporary Fixes (PTFs)
- Perform attended IPLs and manage system reboots (re-IPLs)
- Troubleshoot output queue/printer issues and assign user print controls
- Collaborate with consultants, developers, and core vendors to resolve technical issues
- Operate mailing equipment including Pitney Bowes machines, email systems, FedEx, UPS, and folding machines
- Provide outstanding internal customer service to employees and vendors
- Support additional IT tasks as assigned by the IT Manager
Requirements
- 1 years of experience working with AS400 platform
- 2 years of computer operating skills
- Have excellent communication, interpersonal, verbal, and written skills
- Work well independently, and in a team environment
- Be able to learn and retain instructions in computer operations, on AS400 and other platforms as required for position
Salary : $60,000 - $70,000
