Position Overview:
The Senior Commercial Credit Analyst is responsible for evaluating the financial health and creditworthiness of commercial loan applicants. This role involves preparing detailed credit reports, analyzing complex financial data, and ensuring compliance with loan policies and regulations. The individual will work closely with loan officers, provide mentoring to junior analysts, and contribute to the maintenance of accurate and comprehensive loan portfolios.
Key Responsibilities:
Credit Evaluation & Decision Support:
- Assess credit applications for new loans, renewals, and extensions by analyzing financial statements and related documentation.
- Compile comprehensive credit reports, including risk assessments and repayment capacity.
- Leverage data from financial reporting tools to calculate debt service coverage and other financial ratios.
- Gather credit data from external agencies and ensure accurate interpretation.
- Ensure loans comply with company policies and industry regulations.
Loan Portfolio Maintenance:
- Perform detailed annual reviews of existing loan files, including stress testing and industry trend analysis.
- Identify and escalate changes in credit risk, providing well-documented recommendations for risk grade adjustments.
Client Interaction & Collaboration:
- Join loan officers during client meetings and on-site visits to gain deeper insights into operations.
- Prepare concise briefs outlining key financial and operational highlights for client discussions.
Mentoring and Development:
- Support the training and development of less experienced credit analysts, fostering skill-building and knowledge sharing.
Additional Contributions:
- Participate in strategic initiatives and assist with special projects as needed.
- Provide analytical support and problem-solving expertise to loan officers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- At least five years of experience analyzing commercial credit in a financial institution or similar setting.
- Proficient in financial modeling and analysis tools.
- Strong knowledge of commercial loan structures, lending procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Exceptional analytical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Skilled at managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and credit analysis software.
