In-House Attorney (International Experience - LATAM Focus)
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic In-House Attorney to join our client's legal team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in international law, with a particular focus on Latin America (LATAM), and possess 5 or more years of experience working with international companies. This role requires the ability to work onsite in Miami, FL, and the candidate must be authorized to work in the United States. Spanish language proficiency is a must for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal counsel and support for business operations in Latin America, including advising on corporate governance, commercial agreements, compliance, and regulatory matters.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements with international clients, partners, and vendors.
- Support the business in navigating the legal and regulatory landscape in multiple LATAM countries, ensuring compliance with local laws and international regulations.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders (e.g., business development, finance, and compliance teams) to ensure alignment between legal and business objectives.
- Oversee dispute resolution and litigation matters involving LATAM regions, collaborating with external counsel when necessary.
- Assist with cross-border transactions, mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures, particularly those involving LATAM markets.
- Ensure that the company's operations in LATAM comply with international trade laws, anti-bribery, and anti-corruption regulations.
- Conduct legal risk assessments and provide proactive strategies to mitigate potential legal issues in LATAM markets.
- Monitor and stay updated on legal developments and regulatory changes in key LATAM jurisdictions that may impact the company's business operations.
- Collaborate with global teams on international legal projects and initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Current In-House experience
- 5 years of experience as a corporate or in-house attorney, with significant experience in international legal matters, especially in LATAM markets.
- Strong understanding of Latin American legal systems, regulations, and business practices.
- Proven experience drafting and negotiating complex international agreements and contracts.
- Familiarity with trade compliance, foreign direct investment, and international dispute resolution.
- Fluency in Spanish (both written and spoken) is required.
- Authorized to work in the United States (no visa sponsorship available).
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, business acumen, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional language proficiency (Portuguese, French, etc.) is a plus.
- Experience with international litigation or arbitration matters.
- Prior experience working in-house at a multinational corporation.
