Senior Accountant – Luxury Retail
About the Role
Ascendo Resources is actively seeking an Senior Accountant to support operations across the Americas for our client in luxury retail. This position is based in New Jersey, this role collaborates closely with both local and global counterparts.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of accountants across the Americas region, fostering professional growth and development.
- Collaborate with shared service teams, external BPOs, and Finance teams to manage monthly and year-end closings, ensuring accurate integration of local trial balances into the ERP system.
- Oversee the preparation and review of journal entries, margin files, balance sheet reconciliations, and cash flow elements for monthly and quarterly reporting in compliance with IFRS.
- Partner with department heads to review financial results, ensure accurate expense coding, and align with budgetary guidelines.
- Analyze financial activities and processes to identify areas for improvement and streamline operations.
- Approve invoices, inventory stock adjustments, and AR adjustments for the Americas region, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Calculate and process variable rent payments, maintain lease templates, and ensure compliance with IFRS guidelines for operating and financial leases.
- Collaborate with lease accounting teams to reconcile lease-related costs and maintain IFRS 16 compliance.
- Support the preparation and review of annual tax declarations for Canada and LATAM business units in partnership with shared service teams and external BPOs.
- Assist with external and internal audits by compiling and preparing necessary documentation.
- Monitor internal controls, ensure compliance with SOPs, and support management in preparing additional disclosures for the consolidation tool.
- Contribute to ad hoc analyses, special projects, and process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA or MBA preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, including managerial responsibilities; retail or luxury retail experience is a plus.
- Proficient in IFRS principles and accounting procedures.
- Advanced technical skills, including Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, SUMIFS), with experience in Lawson, SAP, or HFM preferred.
- Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and leadership abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to manage complex data.
- Skilled at multi-tasking and meeting critical deadlines, with a positive and proactive work attitude.
- Comfortable maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information.
- Bilingual in English, Spanish, or Portuguese is a plus.
- Willingness to travel to the New York office as needed.
