What are the responsibilities and job description for the Counselor Behavioral Health - Social Services position at ASCENSION DEPAUL SERVICES?
Job Summary:
Provide organizational leadership, technical behavioral health assistance, and staff development in all aspects of mental health and social emotional learning for Ascension DePaul Services (ADSSA) clients. Reports to the Social Services Director. Serves clients who have experienced adverse Social Determinates of Health (SDOH) experiences that can prevent full autonomy by overcoming developmental or social challenges. Deliver information and consultation to other Ascension DePaul Services of San Antonio (ADSSA) Staff. Provide professional development, mentoring, and high-quality modeling for mental health concerns and behavior, social emotional learning, and prevention practices to support children, families, and staff.
Responsibilities:
- Understands and manifests the mission of Ascension DePaul Services.
- Conducts patient assessments and establishes therapy treatment goals.
- Administers individual and group therapy. Maintains thorough and confidential records of observations.
- Evaluates progress and effectiveness of therapy interventions.
- Provides patient with information regarding resources and therapeutic activities in the community.
- Works directly with the patient, family, and community providers to ensure active and collaborate care from the initiation of treatment to the time of discharge.
- Provides assessment, social services and counseling to patients, their families and staff in relation to social, psychological, financial and family situations including discharge planning. Provides individual, group and family psychotherapy. Documents therapies and treatment. Assists with direct patient care as needed.
- Initiates and conducts educational programs for staff as needed. Provides community education on therapeutic services. Develops and maintains good working relationships with outside community health and social agencies and reaches out to the community to develop new resources for meeting patient needs.
- Provides clinical consultation to leadership staff about mental health issues for various patient populations, including children and families. Interprets and communicates necessary information regarding patients and families including social history information to social service management team.
- Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in service with the organization to include but not limited to patient names and information, services rendered to patients, donor names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
- Submit reimbursement for services rendered to eligible clients of our RAYS parenting program using funding partner web software.

- Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Work in a team environment. Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field from an accredited college or university.
Licensure/Certification / Registration:
- Required Credential(s):
- One of the following:
- Counselor credentialed, (L.P.C./L.P.C.-A) from the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
- Clinical Social Worker or Clinical Social Worker Intern credentialed from the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Preferred Credential(s)
- BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA).
