GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Ascension DePaul Services of New Orleans (DCSNO) affiliates with DCHC which manages multiple Federally Qualified Health Center locations in the Greater New Orleans area. DCSNO is committed to improving the health status of communities and continues a long tradition of health ministry. DCSNO is seeking a full-time Nutritionist.
The Nutritionist is responsible for counseling Women, Infants, and Children Program participants, interpreting state policy and procedures regarding the federally funded Women’s, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program. The Nutritionist will monitor and evaluate High Risk WIC participants and review and approve special formula or nutrition supplements requested by medical providers on WIC approved documents in accordance with the USDA- WIC Program.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES
Provide high risk nutrition assessments, counseling to clients, assigning of appropriate risk codes, approval of high risk WIC referral forms as referred in accordance to WIC policies. Develop a nutrition plan that reflects the high risk referral.
Must follow all WIC policies and procedures in providing services. Responsible for assisting in promoting breastfeeding.
Must be proficient in computer skills/operations. Have the ability to provide verbal education of all levels.
Serve as a member of the agency’s WIC team, and conduct presentations as assigned.
Serve as a nutrition professional for the agency and address nutrition issues as called upon by other medical providers within the agency.
Promote and support breastfeeding counseling and education.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Lifting, twisting, standing, bending and some activities that involve walking will be required to be performed. Employees will be required to travel from time to time and must be able to provide flexible work hours to serve parents as needed for two WIC sites.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position involves a sedentary work environment. Work is normally performed in a clinic setting, WIC office with Computer, nutrition education materials and displays.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Human Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Food System Management, or a closely related field and four (4) years of professional experience in the field of Public Health, Program Management or Program Administration.
Registered and licensed by the Credentialing Dietetics Registration (CDR), and possesses a license from the Louisiana Board of Examiners in Dietetics and Nutrition.
Have a background in working with the WIC program or maternal child health program.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Human Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Food System Management, or a closely related field and three (3) years of professional experience in the field of Public Health, Program Management or Program Administration.
