The Chief Legal Officer (CLO) will provide strategic leadership and oversee the firm's legal, compliance, and risk management functions. As a key member of the executive team, the CLO ensures that the firm’s operations, practices, and policies align with legal and ethical standards while supporting the firm's growth and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute the firm’s legal strategies in alignment with business goals.
- Provide executive leadership and vision to ensure legal initiatives support the firm’s overall mission.
- Advise the board of directors, partners, and senior leadership on legal matters and corporate governance.
Legal Oversight
- Oversee all legal matters, including compliance, contracts, litigation, intellectual property, and regulatory issues.
- Manage high-stakes or complex legal cases and provide strategic oversight for outcomes beneficial to the firm.
- Negotiate and draft significant agreements, partnerships, and key client engagements.
Risk Management and Compliance
- Establish and maintain effective policies and procedures to manage risks and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Oversee the firm's adherence to applicable laws and regulations, including employment, data privacy, and client confidentiality standards.
- Anticipate potential legal and regulatory challenges and proactively mitigate risks.
Team Development and Collaboration
- Lead and develop the firm’s legal team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and innovation.
- Collaborate with practice group leaders to ensure consistency and alignment in legal and operational matters.
- Act as a mentor and resource to junior attorneys and other team members.
Business Development
- Support business development initiatives by ensuring compliance in client engagement processes and contract negotiations.
- Represent the firm in key industry forums, fostering relationships to enhance the firm’s reputation and business opportunities.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with the state bar (required).
- 6 years of legal experience, with a combination of in-house counsel, law firm, and executive roles preferred.
- Demonstrated success in complex litigation, corporate law, compliance, and leadership within a legal setting.
