We are seeking an experienced First Party Defense Attorney with 7 years of experience to join our growing legal team. This is an in-office or hybrid position, offering the flexibility of remote work, with three days in the office each week. As a First Party Defense Attorney, you will represent insurance companies and their policyholders in claims involving property damage, personal injury, and other first-party defense matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert legal counsel and representation in first-party defense claims
- Manage and litigate a caseload of insurance defense cases from inception through trial
- Draft, review, and file legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery, and settlement agreements
- Negotiate settlements and participate in mediations, arbitration, and depositions
- Collaborate with clients, adjusters, and expert witnesses to gather facts and build strong cases
- Stay updated on relevant legal developments and maintain a thorough understanding of insurance law
- Handle complex legal research, case strategy, and trial preparation
- Provide clear and timely communication to clients, opposing counsel, and court officials
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in Florida
- 7 years of experience in first-party defense litigation, specifically with insurance defense matters (knowledge of construction deficit a plus)
- Proven track record of successful case outcomes, including trial experience
- Strong knowledge of insurance law, policy language, and applicable statute
- Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience in using legal management software and tools
