Ascension Global Staffing & Executive Search is hiring on behalf of our client, a prestigious global financial services firm, seeking an experienced Attorney with expertise in Human Resources, Privacy, and Corporate Governance to join their legal team in Miami.
This role will work closely with the Human Resources, Privacy, and Legal teams, providing guidance on HR matters, data privacy compliance, and corporate governance while also overseeing third-party discovery requests. The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of experience and a strong background in employment law, privacy regulations, and corporate governance within a highly regulated industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on hiring, terminations, compensation, workplace policies, benefits, and compliance with U.S. and international employment laws.
- Draft and review employment contracts, severance agreements, and workplace policies.
- Manage workplace investigations involving employee disputes, discrimination, misconduct, and harassment claims.
- Provide counsel on employment-related litigation, including wrongful termination, wage disputes, and regulatory compliance.
- Support labor relations efforts, including employee classification and worker misclassification risk management.
Human Resources & Compliance
- Partner with HR leadership to develop and enforce best practices for talent acquisition, performance management, and employee relations.
- Assist in creating and implementing employee handbooks, workplace policies, and compliance training programs.
Privacy & Data Protection
- Implement a Privacy by Design approach to ensure compliance with privacy and data protection laws in HR and corporate operations.
- Advise on data handling practices for employee records and client information.
- Collaborate with IT, information security, HR, operations, and compliance teams to develop privacy policies and best practices.
- Conduct privacy impact assessments and maintain records of data processing.
- Negotiate complex data-related agreements, ensuring compliance with legal and strategic requirements.
Corporate Governance & General Counsel Support
- Draft and maintain corporate governance policies for a large financial institution.
- Oversee and manage outside counsel regarding third-party litigation and discovery requests.
- Review and negotiate vendor contracts as necessary.
Qualifications & Experience
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in a U.S. state bar.
- 5-7 years of relevant experience in employment law, privacy compliance, and corporate governance.
- Strong understanding of U.S. labor laws and data privacy regulations.
- Proven ability to collaborate with HR, legal, compliance, and executive leadership teams.
- Experience in financial services, technology, or healthcare industries is a plus.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and negotiation skills.
Preferred Experience
- Experience at a top law firm or in-house legal team within financial services.
- CIPP (Certified Information Privacy Professional) or HR-related certifications (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) are a plus.
