Land Use & Zoning Associate – New Jersey
About the Opportunity:
The Real Estate practice group is seeking a talented and motivated Land Use & Zoning Associate to join our client's team. This role offers a dynamic blend of land use, zoning, and real estate transactional work, providing an excellent opportunity for a skilled attorney to engage with clients, government officials, and regulatory bodies while shaping the future of real estate development in New Jersey.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience in land use, zoning, and real estate transactions, with an interest in handling land use litigation matters. This position involves frequent client interactions, public speaking engagements, and presentations before planning and zoning boards, as well as local, county, and regional governing authorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Land Use & Zoning Advocacy: Represent clients in matters before planning and zoning boards and various government authorities, providing strategic counsel on regulatory compliance and project approvals.
- Real Estate Transactions: Handle commercial and residential real estate transactions, including due diligence, contract negotiations, and closings.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, effectively communicating legal strategies and navigating diverse stakeholder interests.
- Public Speaking & Presentations: Present cases before municipal, county, and regional agencies, advocating for land development projects and zoning approvals.
- Regulatory Compliance & Government Relations: Work closely with government officials and external entities to guide clients through the evolving landscape of New Jersey land use regulations.
- Land Use Litigation (Preferred, but Not Required): Assist in litigation matters related to land use and zoning disputes, supporting senior attorneys in case strategy and legal filings.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum of two years in land use, zoning, and real estate transactions; experience in land use litigation is a plus.
- Bar Admission: Must be licensed and in good standing in New Jersey.
- Academic & Professional Excellence: Strong academic credentials and a proven track record of exceptional legal research, writing, and advocacy skills.
- Interpersonal & Leadership Skills: Personable, high emotional intelligence, and comfortable leading meetings with diverse stakeholders, including clients, officials, and community representatives.
- Communication & Problem-Solving: Ability to write and speak concisely, with a practical, solutions-oriented approach to legal challenges.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary Range: $135,000 - $190,000, based on experience.
