Our client, a leading law firm based in Downtown Miami, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to lead and manage all financial operations of the firm. This is a key leadership position responsible for ensuring fiscal responsibility, financial reporting accuracy, compliance, and strategic support to firm leadership. The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record in law firm financial management, with a strong command of accounting best practices, budgeting, forecasting, and operational leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of the firm’s financial operations, including accounting, billing, payroll, financial planning, and analysis
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and provide strategic insights to senior management
- Supervise and mentor the accounting and billing team
- Manage budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring alignment with firm goals
- Monitor cash flow, trust accounting, and compliance with financial controls and regulatory requirements
- Partner with external auditors, tax advisors, and banking institutions
- Evaluate and implement financial systems, reporting tools, and process improvements
- Ensure compliance with industry-specific accounting standards and best practices
- Prepare financial dashboards, KPIs, and profitability analysis for firm leadership
- Collaborate closely with the Managing Partner, COO, and department heads on financial strategy
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
- Minimum 7 years of accounting/finance experience, with 5 years in a leadership role within a law firm
- Strong understanding of law firm billing systems, trust accounting, and matter management
- Proficiency in legal industry financial software (e.g., Aderant, ProLaw, Elite, or similar)
- Exceptional leadership, analytical, and communication skills
- High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-performance environment
