- SUMMARY OF POSITION’S PURPOSE
- EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION – Preferred Bachelor or Associates Degree in Safety and Security Management, Emergency Preparedness Management, Homeland Security, Behavior Sciences, Public Safety or related fields preferred; others given consideration if they have extensive experience in Safety and Security related field.
- EXPERIENCE – Three years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in managing and leading Safety and Security programs or extensive experience in a Safety and Security related field.
- SKILLS – Working knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations. Possess the ability to communicate clearly in oral and written form with a diverse group of administrators, teachers, and the public.
- Manages and directs all matters related to safety, security, and crisis management.
- Develops, implements, and monitors crisis management and emergency plan and procedures.
- Serves as District Representative on parish Emergency Operations Team.
- Develops and maintain community involvement and support to initiate cooperative activities with various local, federal and state agencies.
- Plans, coordinates, and participates in school safety audits, and follows up with the recommendations from safe schools audits.
- Manages District Crisis Team, including planning and coordinating annual and periodic meetings.
- Serves as District Liaison for multi-agency response to active shooter, including reunification protocols and procedures.
- Provide leadership for school crisis teams to include training and development of District standards.
- Assists in the inspection of buildings to ensure that they are maintained and operated in a safe manner to avoid accidents, injuries or loss of property due to failure to follow Life Safety Codes.
- Works with individual building principals in establishing emergency evacuation/drill procedures for each classroom and office.
- Meets with principals, administrators, and facility managers to discuss security and safety deficiencies and recommends solutions.
- Reviews on a regular basis all security precautions and procedures and recommends additions, changes or reductions in service as appropriate. Participates in Parish Emergency Operations Team.
- Meets with principals, administrators, and facility managers to discuss behavioral expectations and awareness, and recommends initiatives to support safe behaviors and decisions making.
- Assists law enforcement with undesirable behavior and develop initiatives to prevent such behaviors.
- Serves as liaison between school resources officers and the District.
- Adheres to and maintains knowledge of safety and compliance laws, policies, and administrative rules and regulations.
- Consults with Risk Management Department and Health Services Department regarding safety training, issues, and preventative measures.
- Maintains confidentiality due to the sensitive nature of materials and information handled in this position.
- Additional hours beyond normal work hours including after hours and weekend work will be required on occasion.
- Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, coworkers, etc. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure confidentiality is assured.
- Identify opportunities and make recommendations to reduce risk and manage expenses.
- Performs other duties as requested.
