- EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION – High School Diploma or its equivalent. Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work is preferred.
- EXPERIENCE – 0-6 months of Head Start experience and an understanding of the Head Start effort.
- SKILLS – Ability to work with children and parents.
- Conducts a family needs assessment on all Head Start families and develops a partnership agreement with the family.
- Plans home visits to ensure that all services needed by families are being accessed.
- Assumes responsibility of making contact with referral agencies when families to not have the skills necessary to accomplish independently.
- Abides by the confidentiality policies of the program.
- Attends all assigned training sessions.
- Reports to assigned site on time and signs in/out accordingly.
- Collects information for the community resource booklet and community partnership agreements.
- Submits all reports in a timely manner making sure they are accurate, grammatically correct and written without bias.
- Assists in the recruitment of volunteers and the collection of non-federal shares.
- Investigates absences of children.
- Prepares for family assistance in times of crisis.
- Completes all requirements deemed necessary for meeting minimum standards of licensing.
- Investigates absences of children and shares information with classroom staff.
- Attends training sessions on child abuse procedures.
- Contacts referral agencies for parents.
- Makes classroom visits to become familiar with children and classroom staff.
- Assists classroom staff to understand the home situations of children.
- Comes to the assistance of classroom staff when warranted to meet child/adult ratio.
- Participates in the case management approach to serving children and families.
- Assists with the recruitment and enrollment of children.
- Facilitates parent meetings including the active participation of a center committee.
- Orients and trains parents as volunteers prior to their assignment in the classroom.
- Ensures that volunteers follow the guidelines mandated by licensing.
- Develops transition strategies for parents.
- Assists parents with applications for LACHIP and Medicaid and keep a count of how many parents participate.
- 26. Works to develop an efficient method of tracking services through the use of management software.
- Works to develop a monthly newsletter.
- Works according to the hours specified by the Director.
- Meets with supervisor on an as required basis.
- Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc. Schedules and/or attends conferences with parents. Priorities and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality are assured.
- Identifies opportunities and recommend methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e. g. expense management. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
- Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments and to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co- workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system.
- Performs other duties as required.
