    T-3

    ASSIGNMENT PERIOD
    202 days




    II. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

    Master’s degree and/or National Board Certification. Louisiana Teaching Certificate. Special Education certification in one or more appropriate areas and, where applicable, state licensure. Additional criteria as established by School Board.



    III. EXPERIENCE:



    Five (5) or more years of effective elementary, middle, or high school teaching experience in the area of Special Education. Experience in group facilitation planning, problem solving, coaching and other leadership abilities.

    • Communicates clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
    • Works effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders including certified, classified, parents, students, managers, and external entities.

    • Coaches and facilitates effectively.
    • Develops, plans and coordinates projects.
    • Works with advisory groups in establishing and implementing district Special Education Department goals and objectives.
    • Analyzes data to track progress and evaluate the effectiveness of programs.


    V. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



    • Coordinates and implements school special education programs in collaboration with SPED Department and school personnel.
    • Collaborates with school personnel in the placement of exceptional students in the least restrictive environment to appropriately meet their needs.
    • Monitors instruction, schedules and management practices to ensure alignment with students’ identified needs.
    • Facilitates and monitors the development and implementation of IEPs, ensuring timelines are met, safeguards are provided, and confidentiality is maintained.
    • Facilitates appropriate transition services for special education students at all levels.
    • Facilitates communication with school personnel and parents regarding special education programs and services.
    • Facilitates completion of records, reports, and related paperwork within established guidelines to meet district, state and federal compliance.
    • Collaboratively plans and delivers professional development activities for all personnel involved with special education programs and students.
    • Collaborates with personnel in the selection of instructional materials, supplies and equipment to support the needs of students with disabilities.
    • Assists in the development of policy, procedures and programs to meet the needs of exceptional children in accordance with federal and state regulations.
    • Works cooperatively with principals and district instructional leaders in the identification of needs, planning, implementing, and evaluating Special Education programs in schools according to guidelines established by LDOE and district.
    • Collaboratively plans and conducts professional development and provides technical assistance for the purpose of ensuring increased student achievement in the areas of reading and writing.
    • Provides coordination with local (LEA) and state department of education (SEA) organizations to stay informed and maintain compliance with local, state and federal laws for addressing the needs of students with disabilities.
    • Interprets, as appropriate, test results and statistical data concerning reading and writing to district instructional leaders, principals, staff, and/or communicating effectively, demonstrating objectives, expectations, and/or goals in support of the system’s initiatives.
    • Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic lists and records (e.g. work/appointment schedules, contact logs, parent resources, student information, etc.) for the purpose of documenting and/or providing reliable information.
    • Seeks out opportunities for professional development and make a systematic effort to conduct action research through the participation in district-level Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to enhance and improve personal proficiency.
    • Challenges negative attitudes or practices to ensure that all students are honored, both emotionally and academically, on each school campus and throughout the district.
    • Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured.
    Performs other duties as requested.


    Teachers shall be expected to perform the following duties, along with the completion of corresponding documents, forms, and reports:


    Instructional Components

      • Fulfill duties traditionally expected of those in supervisory positions

      • Grade papers
      • Take and record attendance
      • Enter/Average grades
      • Maintain positive and timely interaction with parents relative to the performance or conduct of students assigned to the teacher


    Supervision


      • Supervision of students when students are on or off campus at a school related/sponsored event
      • Supervision of students prior to school and/or drop-off, when assigned
      • Supervision of students in the classroom
      • Supervision of students between classes, during recess/intermission, during lunch, assemblies
      • Supervision of students after school and/or pick-up, when assigned


    Non-instructional Components


      • Attend meetings generally associated with the instructions of students
      • Attend faculty, staff, and department meetings
      • Attend training sessions
      • Attend IEP meetings
      • Attend parent-teacher conferences
      • Attend back-to-school and open-house events
      • Attend graduation
      • Attend PGP, PIP, Evaluation, Observation, IAP, and student discipline meetings/hearings
      • Attend school board/committee meetings, upon request


    Extracurricular Activities


      • Attend/work concessions/gates of no more than 15 athletic events per school year as requested by the principal or designee
      • Attend all meetings and functions of those activities, clubs, or groups of which the employee is a sponsor
