Job Title: Recovery Support Specialist & Medical Assistant
Location: Pawnee, Oklahoma
Employment Type: PRN 4 hours per week in May; Option to increase to Full time in June
Position Summary:
The Recovery Support Specialist & Medical Assistant serves as a vital guide and liaison for individuals navigating substance use treatment. This dual-role position provides both compassionate recovery support and essential medical assistance. You will help clients identify treatment needs, develop and monitor individualized plans, and stay engaged in their recovery journey. As a Medical Assistant, you will support the nursing team within your scope of practice—playing a key role in client care and wellness.
Key Responsibilities Recovery Support:
- Provide client orientation within the first 48 hours, covering rules, treatment plans, and program expectations.
- Lead educational and psycho-educational groups to build recovery skills.
- Assist with client intake processes and documentation.
- Administer and log urine analysis (UA) samples according to protocol.
- Write and maintain accurate progress notes as assigned.
- Support clients with daily living activities (ADLs).
- Supervise recreational activities, transport clients to AA meetings, appointments, etc.
- Plan and facilitate appropriate physical fitness and leisure activities.
- Monitor and report on daily incidents and complete documentation timely.
- Provide oversight during housekeeping, meals, and other group activities.
- De-escalate situations using appropriate techniques when needed.
- Serve as a supportive team player in day-to-day operations, including light cleaning and assisting with chores.
Medical Assistant Duties:
- Interview clients and record basic medical history.
- Take and document vital signs, perform blood draws, and administer urine drug screens per regulatory standards.
- Assist with medication administration and accurate documentation.
- Schedule client appointments and implement provider orders.
- Deliver appropriate education to clients related to medication and wellness.
- Collaborate with the clinical team to support treatment planning and care coordination.
What We’re Looking For:
- Certification: Medical Assistant Certification (Required)
- Experience: Background in 12-Step recovery or dual diagnosis treatment (Preferred)
- Soft Skills: Compassionate, team-oriented, organized, and adaptable
- CPR/First Aid: Must have or obtain within 30 days of hire
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills; ability to follow verbal, written, and diagram instructions
Physical & Work Requirements:
- Must be able to sit, stand, use hands, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Work is indoors in a climate-controlled environment.
- Communication via phone, email, video, and in-person is frequent.
